Northside’s Student Council Members Recognized
On Wednesday, Nov. 17, a special public session was called by the Levittown Board of Education to appoint the newest members of the 2011-2012 Citizens Advisory Committee for Budgets. After a brief moment of silence for the troops fighting abroad, six new members were appointed to the already formed committee. The committee is made of the following 21 district residents:
William Bogdanowich, Dan Bornstein, Eddie Callaghan, Thomas Carman, Fred Carroll, Jason Feiner, Fred Gray, Sharon Katz, Thomas Kohlman, Michael Nersesian, Jane Rosi, Aileen Shapiro, Kenneth Siegel, Richard Snizek, Patricia Stillwaggon, Tracey Thomas, Roxanne Toomey, Kathleen Vaughan Ware, Nicholas Voulgaris, Frank Ward, and Maria Xenios.
Committee members will focus on a thorough review of the current (2010-2011) budget, a study of the multi-year budget process and its implications, and an analysis of the 2011-2012 budget proposals as they are developed.
Newly elected members to Northside Elementary School’s Student Council were presented to the audience and board members. The eight students gave a small presentation on the responsibilities they expect to uphold throughout the school year. Board of Education President Michael Pappas congratulated President Scott McKinnon, Vice President Matthew Cavanagh, Secretary Lauryn O’Keefe, Treasurer Erika Foy, Senators Charlie Cook and Hailey Thomas, and Cabinet Members Melissa Rispoli and Christina Smith for taking on the responsibilities of student government.
Adopt-a-Family Program
The Levittown Board of Education, along with the PTA, Kiwanis, the Levittown School District staff and the Chamber of Commerce are once again running the Levittown “Adopt-a-Family” program. District PTA Council President Esta Lachow reminded the community of the second annual program.
The program hopes to provide local needy families with gifts and food during the holiday season. Last year, the Levittown School District identified 100 families in need, all were adopted for the holiday.
Social workers of the district anonymously identify families with the highest need and supply some basic details, profiles, sizes, need-lists to the event organizers. The profiles are supplied to donor families and groups, who then shop from the list they have been given.
Participants can also donate local store and grocery gifts cards in any amount to the cause. In addition to helping local families, the event encourages the community to think and shop locally. All shopping should be completed and delivered to the district clerk’s office before Friday, Dec. 17.
On Monday, Dec. 20, 6:30 p.m. the event coordinators and volunteers will meet at Levittown Memorial Education Center to organize and wrap the donated gifts. Gifts will then be privately distributed to the families in need during the week of Christmas.
