Last week, residents defeated the Floral Park-Bellerose Union Free School District’s bond proposition by 42 votes. The official results were 420 yes votes; and 462 no. The district proposed the $5 million bond to pay for school improvement projects at John Lewis Childs School and Floral Park-Bellerose School, including: boiler replacements; roofing, brick and masonry work; electrical wiring upgrades and other structural work.
Approval of the bond proposition would have allowed the district to finance the improvements over a period not exceeding 20 years. The projected yearly bond debt would have been $440,000, which is the approximate amount of the District’s current annual bond debt that was fully paid off in 2010, according to the District’s website.
