The Annual Christmas Tree, Menorah and Kinara Lighting Ceremony

I would like to invite all residents of the Town of Hempstead to join us at the annual Christmas Tree, Menorah and Kinara Lighting ceremony.

During the ceremony, the Jackson Main Elementary School Chorus will provide live music, singing festive holiday songs and getting everyone into the holiday spirit. And no holiday ceremony would be complete without a visit from the jolly man himself arriving in a 1947 Mack Pumper truck, courtesy of the Oceanside Fire Department, Columbia Engine Co. Number 1, and handing out special treats to every boy and girl.

Hempstead Town’s Angel Tree Toy Drive will be on display with donated toys from bicycles to dolls and trucks being collected for the Salvation Army to distribute to local disadvantaged children. Every year, Town of Hempstead employees continue to give generously during the holiday season to this wonderful charity, donating more than 2,000 toys in years past. The Town of Hempstead is the Salvation Army’s largest contributor and we take pride in our holiday collection for more than 20 years now. Every year, it is my pleasure to personally distribute the unwrapped new gifts to the Salvation Army’s Hempstead headquarters.

In addition, holiday Beanie Babies will be sold in the lobby at Town Hall to benefit the March of Dimes, another great organization that our employees contribute to year round.

The ceremony will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 1 at 4 p.m. at Hempstead Town Hall Plaza, located at One Washington Street in Hempstead.

Refreshments, including hot cocoa and cookies, will be provided afterwards. I hope residents will attend this festive event to welcome this wonderful, giving time of year.

From my family to yours, I wish you a happy, healthy and joyous holiday season.
