Thanksgiving Holiday

I hope that everyone had a good Thanksgiving holiday and took time to reflect on what we all have to be thankful for. I would like to thank those that have made donations to our War Memorial Fund. Remember, no donation is too small! Donations may be forwarded to Village Hall at 351 Stewart Avenue and made payable to the Village of Garden City and note “War Memorial Fund” on your check.

Garden City Hotel Tree Lighting Ceremony – Monday, November 29

The Garden City Hotel’s Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony is planned for Monday, Nov. 29, at 5:30 p.m. I encourage you to attend and to enjoy one of Garden City’s great traditions. We thank the Garden City Hotel for their hospitality in sponsoring this wonderful evening. The evening begins with performances of holiday carols, a winter wonderland complete with Santa Claus and his elves and model trains, illumination of the hotel’s cupola in festive shades of green and red and the ceremonial lighting of a spectacular 30-foot blue spruce tree at the hotel’s grand entrance. This year’s guest of honor will be Ms. Katherine Heaviside, President, Epoch5 Public Relations. The highlight of the festivities will be the moment Ms. Heaviside lights the tree, officially launching the holiday season.

Following the lighting, all are invited into The Garden City Hotel for complimentary refreshments.

Traditional Christmas Tree Lighting — Sunday, December 5

On Sunday, Dec. 5, the Garden City Chamber of Commerce will sponsor its 56th village tree lighting ceremony, beginning promptly at 3:30 p.m. on the Village Green (corner of Stewart and Hilton Avenues).

This year’s program once again is sponsored by Astoria Federal Savings and will feature the Garden City High School Vocal Jazz Ensemble directed by Robert Ludwig. This year, as an added and very special feature will be “Chris Covais and Exit 3” an instrumental quartet comprised of vibraphone, guitar, bass and percussion. As always, “Kingsley Bear”, King’s Supermarket mascot will be on hand to pose with the little ones. The fire department will deliver Santa Claus and hot chocolate will be provided to everyone.

Please bring your entire family to welcome Santa and the holiday season.

Last Day for Lawn Sprinkling, November 30

As the temperature dips, it is difficult to focus on lawn sprinkling; however, I would like to remind residents that the last day for lawn sprinkling is Nov. 30. The board of trustees join me in expressing appreciation for the cooperation exhibited by residents in water conservation this past year.

Board of Trustees’ Meeting Schedule

The next regularly scheduled board of trustees’ meetings that will be held in December are on Dec. 2 and Dec. 16.
