Many Local Residents Made the Kindest Cut of All

On Oct. 25, The Junior Women’s Club of Bellerose and Salone Di Capelli, in Stewart Manor, hosted their third Pantene Beautiful Lengths hair-cutting event. Many women of all ages came to donate 8” or more of their hair to make wigs for women who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment. Pantene and the Entertainment Industry Foundation have partnered with HairUWear to create this first-of-its-kind campaign that encourages people to grow, cut and donate their healthy hair to make high quality, hand tied, real-hair wigs. Once the donations are received and free wigs are made, they are distributed through the American Cancer Society’s extensive network of wig banks across the country. Every six donations will provide 1 wig for a woman in need. As a result of this event, 47 ponytails were donated!

So many thoughtful and caring people came out to help with the event. Owner Joe Tetro, four of the salon’s staff, and eight stylists came out on their day off to donate their time and talent for this cause and cut everyone’s hair for free. Paige de Armas, JWCB’s President, has partnered with the salon to host and promote this important event. Maryel Baletta, a club member and the JWCB’s photographer was also there to help take pictures and capture the memories. The JWCB and Salone Di Capelli are so proud of all who donated, including the youngest to donate who was five, and a few “sister acts” who made donating a family affair! All the people who donated received goody bags and the salon was presented with a Certificate of Thanks from the Junior Women’s of Bellerose. All gratuities given that day will be donated to a charitable organization important to Joe Tetro and the salon staff called Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research.

The women who donated their hair so generously are Colleen Walters, Annie Walters, Sarah Caulson, Faye Blue, Amanda Weigl, Nicole Kurz, Debbie Bilarello, Kaitlin Shanahan, Julia Minogue, Jaime Scott, Regina Siciliano, Jennifer Kerrigan, Elizabeth Carollo, Christine Dellacorte, Madison Firoz, Lauren Firoz and Mary Songen of Floral Park; Lindsay Marrinan,  Paige Willis, Kara Willis, Taylor Willis, Meghan Corieri-Rypkema and Christine Pando of Garden City; Lucille Titone-Carrabis of Williston Park; Abigail Cox and Eileen Ungberg of Stewart Manor, Leslie Hochheiser of New Hyde Park; Rita R.
