Long Island Children’s Museum (LICM) is a learning laboratory where hands-on exhibits invite visitors to experiment, examine and play. Through lively interdisciplinary activities, children and adults can share in the excitement of the learning process as they explore the world in which we live. The museum is designed for infants through 12 and their grownups. LICM is a not-for-profit institution chartered by the New York State Board of Regents.
Long Island Children’s Museum is located at 11 Davis Avenue, Garden City. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Museum admission: $10 for adults and children over 1 year old. Cellini Lodge to Hold Children’s Christmas Carnival
The New Hyde Park Cellini Lodge to hold a Christmas Carnival at Clinton Martin Park Recreational Center, corner of Marcus Avenue and New Hyde Park Road. $5 for each adult and free for children under 12. Be sure to contact Colleen Ferrara at 328-0426 with the names and ages and sex of the children attending so they will receive a gift from Santa. Also included will be games and prizes.
Metropolitan Youth Orchestras/Choir Open Season at Adelphi
The Metropolitan Youth Orchestras of New York & MYO Chorale will present a Messiah Sing-In at 4 p.m at the Cathedral of the Incarnation in Garden City. The Christmas portion of Handel’s famous oratorio will be performed with the MYO Youth Chorale and accompanied by the MYO Chamber Orchestra. Soloists have been chosen from the MYO Youth Chorale. Conductors Edward Norris, III and Patricia Koppeis will share the podium. Audience members are invited to sing in the chorus portions of the masterwork. A limited number of complete scores will be available for sale in the lobby prior to the concert for $20. Copies of the choral portions will also be available for sale for $5. In 1993, the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of New York organization was founded in in Nassau County by music educator John McNeur. Boasting almost 700 members in it’s six orchestras and four choirs, students hail from over 100 different towns in Nassau and Suffolk Counties and New York City. The ensembles perform at various venues throughout Long Island, this year including Staller Center, Adelphi University Performing Arts Center and Alice Tully Hall in New York City. The orchestra usually tours during July and has performed throughout central and eastern Europe, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and China. This year the Orchestra and Chorus are planning a return performance tour of Italy and Greece. The Cathedral of the Incarnation is located at 50 Cathedral Ave in Garden City. Tickets will be available on the day of the concert at the door for $10 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens. The New Hyde Park Fire Department and the Garden City Park Fire/Water Department will hold its elections from 1 to 9 p.m. The New Hyde Park Fire Department will hold its election at fire headquarters, 155 Jericho Turnpike and the Garden City Park Fire/Water Department will hold its elections at its headquarters on Jericho Turnpike and at the Denton Avenue Fire House, next to the Denton Avenue School from 1 to 9 p.m.

Herricks/St. Aidans to Perform at Avery Fisher Hall
The Harmony for Peace Foundation will present an International Holiday Concert at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall at 3 p.m.. Featured at the concert are more than 300 young musicians from eight award-winning ensembles, including Herricks High School’s Metropolitan Orchestra and Choir, and The Angel Voices and Bells of St. Aidan in Williston Park These Long Island ensembes will be welcoming the “Little Stars” girls choir of Croatia. The Little Stars are the most accomplished and decorated girls choir in the world. Also featured are dignitaries such as the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Croatia to the United Nations, H.E. Ambassador Ranko Vilovic and H.E. Deputy UN Secretary General Ivan Simonovic.
