Three Island Trees Varsity Players Earn Football Recognition

Charles Bours Earns Unsung Hero Award

The Island Trees varsity football team had three players recognized at the Nassau County Football Dinner on Wednesday, Dec. 8. Senior running back and linebacker Dave Grecsek received All-County honors while senior offensive/defensive lineman Joey Manna received All-Conference recognition. Senior offensive/defensive lineman Charlie Bours earned a special recognition as the result of the Island Trees Football Coaches recommendation.

Bours was honored at the dinner as the Nassau County Conference IV “Unsung Hero.” The Nassau County Officials Association votes on this honor based on the student-athletes commitment, dedication, work ethic, positive attitude and sportsmanship displayed during the season. Bours was recognized at the dinner with a plaque and a $1,500 scholarship. Only four student-athletes were recognized with this honor among all varsity football players throughout Nassau County.
