Runners Receive GLIRC Awards

The general meeting of the Greater Long Island Running Club (GLIRC) was also its annual “Awards Night.” Several athletes from the local area were among those singled out for awards.

Cristina Diaz of Farmingdale was presented with the Club’s Age Group Championship Award in the Women’s 25-29 Age Group, and Joan Ackerman of Farmingdale was presented with the Club’s Age Group Championship Award in the Women’s 70-74 Age Group.

Mike Fernandez of Farmingdale won one of the Club’s coveted “Most Improved” Awards by virtue of his dedicated efforts and improved performance over the course of the year.

“It was a privilege and a real pleasure to be able to present these awards to Cristina, Joan, Mike, and Michelle,” observed Club President Mike Polansky. “They are four of the people who make our Club and our sport as strong as it is on Long Island.”

Michelle Ackerman of Farmingdale was presented one of the Club’s Mary Anne von der Heydt Memorial Service Award by virtue of her volunteer service to the Club and its activities.
