The In’s and Out’s With Storyteller Donna Washington
At the Long Island Children’s Museum at February 22 at 1 and 3 p.m. Troubling Trouble is full of vibrant characters that range from a vain sun, a determined turtle and a tantrum-throwing crocodile to greedy Anansi and his clever American cousin Br’er Rabbit. It is a fun, fast paced collection of African and African American tales about the perils of troubling with trouble. See how these and other folk characters get in and out of trouble using their imaginations and wit.
Ages: 3 and up. Fee: $4 with museum admission ($3 LICM members), $8 theater only Visitors at the Children’s Museum in the months of January and February have the chance to further their knowledge of black history with a workshop inspired by the life of Martin Luther King Jr. and two exciting interactive theater performances. Programs and performances will shine the spotlight on the contributions African American leaders. All activities will be held at the Long Island Children’s Museum, 11 Davis Avenue, Garden City, NY. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Museum admission: $10 for adults and children over 1 year old, $9 seniors, free to museum members and children under 1 year old. Superintendent Jon Kaiman to Deliver State of Town Address
Having led the Town through one of the most persistent recessions in recent memory while holding the line on taxes, avoiding layoffs and maintaining the level of services residents have become accustomed to, Supervisor Jon Kaiman is preparing to deliver his annual State of the Town address, confident in his administration’s ability to meet the challenges ahead.The public is invited to join the Supervisor and other North Hempstead elected officials Jan. 26 at the clubhouse at Harbor Links Golf Course in Port Washington where he will reflect on the administration’s accomplishments over the past year and outline key goals and priorities going forward.The public is invited to attend the address, sponsored by the League of Women Voters, at 1:15 p.m., free of charge. New Hyde Park Village to Hold Grand Opening Celebration of Theatre
The New Hyde Park Village, at 8 p.m., will hold a grand opening of its newly renovated William Gill Theatre on the top floor of village hall, (handicapped accessible), corner of New Hyde Park Road and Jericho Turnpike. Celebration of Black History Month
