Despite Frigid Temps Outside, Local Retail Biz Heating Up
Amidst a backdrop of an impending ice storm, Floral Park Trustee Dominick A. Longobardi reported at the Board of Trustees meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 1, that two new village businesses are up and running. Park Place Restaurant & Bar, located at 41 Covert Avenue, held its grand opening on Jan. 20, while neighbor Body Works Yoga & Pilates Studio, located at 47 Covert Avenue, held its grand opening on Jan. 15.
Park Place Restaurant opened after “completely renovating the dining, kitchen and bar areas,” said Longobardi. The interior décor is unique to Floral Park. Black and white photos that zoom in on local Floral Park street signs adorn the upper perimeter of the dining room. The menu boasts “innovative American cuisine.”
The restaurant’s grand opening was hosted by WPIX Morning News program’s Jill Nicolini. Proceeds from the event benefitted The John Theissen Children’s Foundation, a Long Island-based nonprofit organization that was launched in 1992 to provide everything from toys to therapeutic and recreational equipment for sick and underprivileged children in hospitals and child-care facilities.
A few doors down, Body Works Yoga & Pilates Studio—an extension of Body Works Day Spa, located at 57 Covert Avenue—welcomed walk-ins to its grand opening, which held mat Pilates, Pilates, yoga and restorative yoga classes throughout the day. “A full schedule is offered to accommodate those who wish to keep those New Year’s resolutions,” Longobardi said.
Body Works owner Rene Galietti rounds out the class offerings with belly dancing, Zumba and kids yoga classes. The studio is open seven days a week, with weekday classes starting at 7 a.m. and multiple class times throughout the day, through 8:15 p.m. The studio welcomes walk-ins for $20 per class and also offers various membership levels, ranging from $180 to $340. In addition, “spa reward” points are given with all memberships.
