Stratford fifth- graders were delighted to have Brad Hamler from HealthTrax lead them in a Fun Fitness workshop. Brad, a fitness professional with more than 20 years of experience in the field, is certified by the National Academy of Sports Medicine, the American Council of Exercise, and the American Academy of Health and Fitness Professionals. He is a post-rehabilitation specialist, focusing on multiple sclerosis patients. Stratford’s school nurse, Cathy Moriarity, arranged the interactive fitness workshop to coincide with our fitness goals for 2011.
The students learned about proper fitness warm-ups, the importance of keeping his/her heart healthy, stretching, and cool-down. They participated in a team exercise relay consisting of 10 jumping jacks, 10 crunches, 10 pushups, holding a yoga pose for 10 seconds, and culminating with 10 squats.
At the conclusion, students learned how to tailor make their own fitness routines and adjust them according to their fitness goals and needs.
