Cabaret
Presented by Nassau Community College’s Theatre and Dance Department through 20 and March 23 through 27 at the Mainstage Theatre. This critically acclaimed, ground-breaking 1998 revival of the 1966 Broadway hit follows the play by John Van Druten and the stories by Christopher Isherwood upon which it’s based instead of the original Broadway version. Cabaret vividly portrays the anti-Semitism and repression that marked the rise of the Third Reich. During its six-year run on Broadway, this production brought to the New York stage the raunchy glamour of the Kit Kat Club and new songs from the film version, including Money and Maybe This Time. Performances take place at 8 p.m. except Sunday, when they begin at 3 p.m. Tickets are $15 a person; $12 seniors 55 and over and free for current college students requesting rush tickets. Organ Recital by Eric Plutz
Eric Plutz is a university organist at Princeton University. He has two solo recordings to his credit, and has concertized across the United States and abroad. Recent performances include a Verizon Hall appearance under the baton of Helmuth Rilling, and two concerts broadcast on WWFM, the classical network. Eric has been described as performing with “gusto, flair, clarity, and strong yet pliant rhythmic control,” (James Hildreth for The American Organist). His program will include music by Louis Vierne, Percy Whitlock and J. S. Poetry Event
Molloy College and its Writer-in-Residence, Barbara Novack, will be hosting a poetry event featuring John Amen at 3 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room, Wilbur Arts Center on Molloy College’s Rockville Centre campus. This event is free and open to the public. An open reading will follow the featured poets. John Amen is the author of three books of poetry, and his work has appeared in numerous publications nationally and internationally. The multi-talented Mr. Amen is also a musician (his folk/folk rock music is on two CDs) and an artist working in acrylics on canvas. He travels widely giving readings, doing musical performances and conducting workshops. In addition, he founded and edits The Pedestal Magazine. HIV/AIDS/Sexual Health Awareness Day
In recognition of HIV/AIDS Awareness Week, Nassau Community College will present a series of events addressing the issues surrounding the condition. Admission is free and the public is invited. •Free Confidential HIV testing. AIDS Memorial Quilt Display; AIDS: The Care Givers – A Photo Exhibit – Physical Education Complex Field House. A collection of national and international quilts on display, along with photographs and resource tables from various community organizations; Museum of Sexuality. An exhibit featuring projects made by NCC Human Sexuality students on such topics as marriage customs, dating rituals and pornography. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
•Talk AIDS, Inc. – Scott Fried. 10 a.m. Physical Education Complex – Dance Studio, Room P 117. Scott Fried was infected with HIV during his first and only unsafe sexual encounter. Fried is a published author who has spoken at over 750 institutions nationally and internationally. His goal is to bring awareness to HIV/AIDS and encourage an open and honest dialogue.
•Love Heals. 1 p.m. Physical Education Complex, Dance Studio, Room P 117. This presentation includes inspirational stories from two young adults living with HIV infection.

Blood Drive
Nassau Community College, in conjunction with Nassau University Medical Center, invites the community to make blood donations during its annual spring blood drive from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the College Center Building. The donation process takes less than an hour and refreshments will be served to participants. Blood donors must be at least 17 years old and in good health. Donors should come with some photo identification. Although small snacks will be provided, donors should eat before donating. This blood drive is sponsored by the Phi Theta Kappa honor society and the Engineering Society of Nassau Community College. Tattoo Blue To Perform
Tattoo Blue, a local LI band, is doing a benefit performance at 8 p.m. at the Ethical Humanist Society of Long Island, 38 Old Country Rd., (next to the water tower). Tattoo Blue plays traditional and rock blues from Stormy Monday to Jesus Left Chicago and “Chain of Fools. The members of the band are Lizzy Walsh on vocal, Guy Abbey on drums, Craig on bass and Hal Spergel on guitar. Trash and Pleasures Auction
Hosted by St. Thomas the Apostle Church in West Hempstead in the Msgr. Smith Auditorium. Items that have been donated by members of St. Joseph’s Church in Garden City will benefit St. Joseph’s. The preview of items starts at 4 p.m. and the live auction begins at 7 p.m. Admission is free and all who register at the door will be eligible for door prizes. A wide variety of exciting donations should make this an entertaining evening. Live auction items will include fine furniture, jewelry, Oriental rugs, art work, silver pieces, crystal and more. The auction will be conducted by an experienced auctioneer, appraiser and gallery owner, Fausto Ricci. There will also be silent auctions and raffles for a variety of gift certificates and items donated by community businesses and parishioners. Talented Teens Sought
The 4th Annual Teen Art, Music and Poetry Festival will be held on April 16 from 1 to 4:30 at the Ethical Humanist Society of LI, 38 Old Country Rd. Talented teens are being sought to participate. Cradle of Aviation Museum
In the world of aviation, signals and coded messages are an important part of how airplanes and air traffic control speak everyday. The Cradle of Aviation Museum has a variety of free family activities. Walk through the eight museum galleries and you’ll walk through over 100 years of aerospace history with 75 planes and space craft and a variety of examples of how pilots navigated and communicated from the early days of flight through the space program. Museum activities are free with admission and are available each day from noon to 4 p.m. The museum also is home to the IMAX Dome Theatre and is located on Charles Lindbergh Blvd., Museum Row. NC Coalition Against Domestic Violence
The Coalition is a member agency of the Garden City Community Fund, United Community Fund of Great Neck, Community Chest of Port Washington and United Way of LI. Call 222-2293 for information the following:

•Free Puppet Show on Seizure Disorder. A free children’s program on epilepsy using the internationally acclaimed “Kids on the Block” troupe of puppets to public and private elementary schools.
