The Farmingdale High School graduating class of 2011 features plenty of talented athletes who will take their skills to the collegiate level next year. Among these standouts is Carl Brescia, who has dominated the football fields of Nassau County for the last 13 years.
Brescia began playing football at the young age of five with the Farmingdale Hawks. He earned the team’s defensive Most Valuable Player award in each of the 10 seasons with the Hawks.
After his last year of youth football in February 2008, the Hawks recognized Brescia with the Petito Award, acknowledging his talents, his time with the team, and his academic success. This is the second highest award a Hawk can achieve.
In February 2011, he received the Clinton Award, which is given to one high school senior and is the highest honor a former Hawk can receive. Brescia earned this award with his leadership qualities, as well as his athletic skills, years of service, and academics.
After playing on the junior varsity team as a freshman, the linebacker was promoted to the varsity level. He earned his starting job as a sophomore, and then received All-Conference honors as a junior. This past season, Brescia was voted one of the team’s captains and earned All-County honors.
Throughout his high school career, Brescia racked up over 200 tackles, forced eight fumbles, blocked four field goal attempts, intercepted a pass and scored a touchdown. In his three seasons at Farmingdale, the Dalers made three appearances in the Nassau County Conference I championship game.
Off the field, Brescia has maintained a grade point average over 90 percent and expects to graduate from Farmingdale in June with 27 college credits, given by C.W. Post/Long Island University. He is a member of DECA and the prestigious National Honor Society. Brescia has dedicated over 500 hours of community service and is a volunteer at a Farmingdale football camp held in July.
The linebacker, who stands over 6 feet tall and weighs in at over 200 pounds, received multiple offers from Division I and Division II colleges. After making his official visits, he has decided to become a Warrior at Merrimack College, a Division II school located in North Andover, MA. Brescia has been accepted into the school’s pre-med program.
