Matt Meng Knows Oyster Bay

Matt Meng said after the East Norwich Civic Association meeting on March 24 that the March 24 mystery picture in the Enterprise Pilot was taken at an Oyster Bay Civic Association meeting. He recognized Legislator Judy Jacobs and Bob Martin in the photo. He is correct!

Billy Minicozzi guessed the photograph was “like a board meeting in Bayville.” That was a good guess.

Billy wished the teams playing in the NCAA Tournament good luck. He has been watching them through the finals including, The Elite Eight; Sweet Sixteen; to the Final Four. He added, “Spring is here!”

Mystery-Mystery Picture Solved

The mystery-mystery photo in the March 17 issue received several calls last week. Ellie Mylonas of East Norwich emailed her answer. “I believe it is the baseketball courts at the bay in Oyster Bay.”

Mel Warren said at the Thursday March 24 meeting of the East Norwich Civic Association that the mystery-mystery picture was of the construction site for the new humongous sports field at TR Memorial Park.

Greg Van Dyke called to say, “It’s Roosevelt beach construction site. Where are they going to park now? What are they going to do for the Oyster Festival?”

The photograph was taken at the Polar Bear Plunge event on March 6. Frank Sammartano, Deputy Park Commissioner said, “The work is on schedule and going along beautifully.” Since then, a great deal more sand was delivered for the project which includes putting in a drainage system for the artificial turf field; working on the recharge basin; putting in two new parking areas; and work on the baseball field.

Rich Reynolds of Niskayuna, NY emailed an answer saying, “It looks like the March 18 Mystery Picture is a view within Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park, looking southwest from near the basketball court toward the entrance kiosk. Looks like the parking lot is being torn up as hay bales and plastic sheeting have been set up to control sediment runoff.

“It’s nice to see that your snow is gone, ours is just about gone up here also. Warmer weather should be just around the corner,” he said cheerfully.

It’s great to hear from all of you. Keep looking and guessing – it keeps you young!
