UJA-Federation Breakfast Reception
UJA-Federation of New York will honor Sandy and Ira Shuchman at a breakfast reception at the Farmingdale Wantagh Jewish Center. There is no couvert for this reception. Funds raised by UJA-Federation sustain the activities of more than 100 health, human-service, educational and community agencies.
Pancake Breakfast Benefit
The Plainview Bethpage Lions Club will hold its Annual Pancake Breakfast at The Marriott Residence Inn, 9 Gerhard Rd., Plainview, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. All are welcome to enjoy eggs, sausage, pancakes and much more. Adults $10; children under 12 $5; children under 5 free. All proceeds will be for Autism, Lions Diabetes Camp and John Theissen Children’s Foundation. 2011 All Kids Fair
Takes place from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Melville Marriott. The fair, organized as a celebration of life for kids and their families, brings together individuals, vendors, businesses and nonprofit organizations with children from birth through high school and their families. It is part health and wellness fair and part education and activities expo. In up to 80 exhibitor spaces, many available programs and opportunities will be presented for children and merchants will sell a variety of items relevant to this population. There will be classes including those geared towards children in music, yoga, exercise, sports, martial arts and party entertainers such as magicians. Also classes designed for parents, including financial and legal planning for children, dental health, nutrition. Topics include education, health and wellness, special needs and milestones such as birthday parties, Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, Quinceañeros and Sweet 16s. Holistic Health Fair
Dr. Linda Eisen, a Huntington chiropractor, announces the 20th Holistic Health Fair to be held at the Huntington Hilton, Route 110, Melville, grom 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Typical vendors include nutrition, environmentally safe products, life coach, natural skin care, anti aging, safe water, chiropractic, enzyme therapy, reflexology, weight loss, clinical hypnosis, fitness, Yoga as well as interesting and education lectures throughout the day on various health related topics. Admission is $5 or nonperishable food donations to benefit LI Cares accepted in lieu of admission fee. Vendor/Craft Fair
The Southern New York Ladies Auxiliary will be hosting a vendor/craft fair at the Massapequa Fire Department, 515 Hicksville Rd., Massapequa (one block north of Sunrise Hwy.), from 6 to 11 p.m. Handicapped accessible. This professionally facilitated group meets on Mondays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and allows participants opportunities to share feelings and strategies related to caring for a person with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia. Farmingdale Adult Day Care Center
A social day care program offering socialization and stimulation to persons 60 and over. The caring staff provides innovative activities for those who can no longer attend regular senior centers because of physical and/or mental impairment. It also affords respite to caregivers allowing them valued time to devote to matters of home or personal needs. This interfaith service meets on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 407 Main St. Support groups are also held once a month on Wednesdays. Free Educational Services
Free courses and academic advice is available to economically and educationally disadvantages adults. The LI Educational Opportunity Center offers programs leading to employment in a variety of fields as well as entrance to college. The LIEOC has satellite units in many areas.
