Soccer April 30 For Save the Children-Haiti

Long Islanders are invited to see a collegiate women’s soccer tournament, attend soccer clinics and beat-the-pro competitions as well as a men’s soccer game as part of the “Kick, Score, Save” soccer event on Saturday, April 30 on New York Institute of Technology Old Westbury campus. The event will benefit Save the Children-Haiti.

The event will also include a shootout contest, face painting and other family activities, along with a men’s soccer game featuring the NYIT Bears and the NJIT Highlanders. Raffles, food vendors, and other activities will support Save the Children’s work in Haiti. The event, which organizers plan to make an annual tradition, is sponsored by NYIT Department of Athletics and Recreation in partnership with Save the Children Long Island Council.

“I am excited to begin, what I envision, as a long and productive relationship with Save the Children,” said NYIT Director of Athletics and Recreation Clyde Doughty, Jr.

Board members at Save the Children embraced the idea of a benefit based on soccer because it is played all around the world.

“It is a sport that is often played in underprivileged countries with bare feet with a makeshift ball,” said STC board members Philippine Bosch and Lynn Gundersen. “Yet, it builds community. That’s what we will be doing here at this event; working together as a community to raise funds and awareness.”
