Amazingly, 29-year old Fabian Daza Pacheco of Flushing made it all look easy as he sped through the challenging Kings Park course in a record breaking 48minutes, 45 seconds, a 5:14 per mile pace that brought him to the finish line of the 14th annual Lazer Aptheker Rosella & Yedid Kings Park 15 Kilometers on March 19 a full two minutes in front of runner-up Aaron Robertson of Albertson. Chris Mammone of Massapequa, who had set the existing record of 49:39 in 2009, was third overall this year in 52:34.
The top local finisher was 47-year old Tracy Kemper of Oyster Bay, who took top honors among the women in the 45-49 Age Group. Tracy, who is an active member of the Greater Long island Running Club and runs competitively for the Club’s Fast Feet Women’s Racing Team, crossed the finish line at the New Discovery Elementary School in Kings Park in a time of 1:04:23. Tracy’s pace for the rugged 9.3 mile course was 6:55 per mile.
A total of 665 runners successfully navigated the 9.3 miles up and down the hills of Kings Park, an increase of more than 200 over the hard core field that braved the freezing rain and wind of the 2010 Run.
Congratulations and thanks to Race Director Steven Toto and the host Greater Long island running Club for another outstanding job of bringing Long Island’s finest runners to Kings Park and making the event a terrific experience for one and all.
