Opening Day for the Storm! The Knights of Columbus Council 2852 Storm received strong pitching from Christine Vissichelli who also hit a double to knock in Kristen Renta with the fourth run. She reached base with a single and stole a base in the 4th inning. The first run of the game came in the second inning when Jessica Vissichelli reached base with a walk and stole 2nd and 3rd base, she was sent home with a single by Jessica Weiss. In the third inning Monica Mattei walked andmoved to third on a single by sister, Theresa Mattei. Gianna Coluccio’s slow grounder to the right side sent home a run and was followed by a single by Brittany Lekulvic who stole 2 bases, with the final run of the inning. Gina Pepe hit a line drive that was caught in right field that would have led to at least another run. Elizabeth Hessler had 2 stolen bases along Emily Hartman who stole 1 too! The team stayed in the mix with strong defense by Natalie Patrey, Emerald Geiger and Cassidy Lange. On this day, theteam also welcomed newcomer Clara Goldberger.

Dominick’s Italian & American Delicatessen (12)
The Rays suffered their first defeat of the season in a 12-2 loss to the mighty Mariners. Despite the loss, the Rays once again showed their competitive spirit by battling until the last out was made. The Rays were led on the mound by the fine work of Joey Jacobs, Jack Tucker, Sean McClellan and Brian Volk. Showing spark and hustle on offense were Charlie Goodwin (2 hits), Brian Volk (2 hits, including an RBI triple) and Sean McClellan. Flashing the leather on defense included Sean O’Connor, Tyler Dauble, Joe Sullivan (nice catch on a tough fly ball to the OF), Angelo Ferrigno (3 strong innings behind the plate) and Jake Dieber (excellent inning ending play at 2B). The Rays will look to get back on the winning track at their next game.

Virigilio Chiropractic and Wellness Center Rangers
The Applebee’s Dodgers instructional team started its season with a bang and had lots of fun. Dodgers Sanay Shay, Aedan Cotter and Ryan Lau ran the bases like champs. Additionally, Lance Yetikyel, Connor Gould, and Zachary Stoyer hit solid shots their first time off of the tee. On the infield, Aidan Smith picked up some hard grounders and teamates Robert Teets , Justin Hazlewood, and Christopher Erxleben helped to nab the ball in the infield and get it to first base quickly. Aidan Multani hit the ball well and had a few key catches in the field. All in all, the Dodgers enjoyed their first day of learning baseball and had fun playing the Rangers.

Dodgers vs. Notre Dame CYO Padres
In their 1st game of the season the Padres played with great passion against a very good Dodgers team. The offense was started by Justin Marsella, Stellios Bizekis and Michael Campagnuolo all showing great patience at the plate. Also with good hitting was Jack Kosinski, Stephen Rabayo, Christian Sikiric, Anthony Stigliano and Christopher Zovko with a couple of hits each. With a good defensive play by Eli Goldberger on a line drive catch making the put out good job kid. The play of the game goes to 2 players Giuseppe Seidita and Nick Marsella who turned a spectacular triple play with the bases loaded great play boys. To all the boys keep up the good work. Go Padres.

The Knights of Columbus Council 2852 Storm quickly bounced back with a masterful game against HBQVB. Starting Pitcher, Jessica Vissichelli pitched 2 innings giving up 1 run, on 1 hit and striking out the side in the second inning. Theresa Mattei closed the final 2 innings and struck out the side in the fourth inning. The Storm opened the first inning by scoring 4 runs. Gina Pepe led off with a walk and was moved to second by a Monica Mattei single. After Theresa reached base scoring Gina, Christine Vissichelli hit a solid single scoring two runs. Elizabeth Hessler knocked in the final run of the frame with a single. In the second, Emerald Geiger singled, and stole a base and was moved over by Natalie Patrey, scoring on a fielder’s choice by Jessica Weiss. In the third inning the team cobbled together walks, and aggressive play. Gianna Coluccio walked while Brittany Lekulvic reached on a fielder’s choice, moving to third on 2 stolen bases, she scored on Cassidy Lange’s fielder’s choice. Emily Hartman reached first on a single and Clara Goldberger walked to score the second and third runs of this 4 run inning. In the fourth and final unlimited inning because of the pending darkness, the Knights of Columbus Council 2852 Storm rung up 7 runs with Christine walking and proceeding to steal 3 straight bases, including home. A big triple by Kristen Renta and a combination of walks, hits and aggressive base running by all of the other girls demonstrated why the Storm is ready for all competition this season.

The Rangers braved the rain and played a nice game. The Offense was led by CJ Riccobono who had 3 hits and 4 Rbi’s and 1 steal, Peter Carreca with 1 hit, 1 walk and 2 steals, Ryan Gaudio had a big hit to drive in 2 runs. Justin Yang was the perfect lead off hitter with 3 walks and 2 steals, Spencer Kern had 1 hit, Marco Coluccio continued to knock the cover off theball with a solid hit. Brett Figelman had 2 walks and a steal. Philp Schurr was solid with 1 hit and a walk. David Klebanow started the game for the Rangers and pitched solid. Justin Yang pitched 2 scoreless innings with 4 K’s. Peter Carreca led the Defense with two outstanding plays at 3rd Base. CJ Riccobono was his usual solid self at short. Ryan Gaudio made 2 nice plays at second base. Marco Coluccio play solid at catcher. Phil Schurr caught a solid game as well.

The Red Sharks played a solid game. The offense was led by Sydney Solomon, Amber Roggendorf, Amanda Volk, Christina Tanenblatt, Kylie Bruccoleri, Nicole Rice, Sofia Carreca, Audrey Koenig, Amy Ugolini, Vanessa DiNardo, Kathleen Gray, Sarah Belmonte, Maria Ferrigno and Kayla Menoscal. The girls played a tough Manhasset team tonight and played up to the competition with some key hit and solid Defense. Sydney Solomon made a great play at third base on a line drive. Amber Roggendorf made some nice plays at First. Sofia Carreca was solid on the pitcher’s mound along with Kylie Bruccoleri and Amanda Volk. Sarah Belmonte, Maria Ferrigno and Kayla Menoscal were solid catchers. The Abrams Fensterman Red Sharks have started the season off well. Happy Birthday to Sofia Carreca and Amanda Volk from your teammate’s on the Red Sharks.

This game was a payoff for the parents. For all the years of washing uniforms, picking up the dirty socks, sitting in freezing cold drizzle in April, and baking in hot sun in June, today they got to sit up and say ‘ hey, these little men can really play!’ Every player contributed and every inning had great baseball. The play was intense. Losing an early lead in the second and then falling behind in the third, the Bears stuck with it to win. It was a gritty come from behind victory. It was fun to watch. Christian ‘Cool Papa’ Carrick started the game with a double and had a single in the fourth. He was also the closer today,pitching three excellent innings with four strikeouts and no runs against! Is there anything this young man can’t do? All great teams have solid run producers and the two, three and four hitters in this line-up are a run producing machine. Anthony ‘A-mazing’ Lanzilotta narrowly missed a triple in the first but drove in run number one and lead off the third with a single.Matthew ‘Thunder Matt’ Vowinkle continued to sparkle at the plate going two for three with a single and a triple. Yanni ‘the Bambino’ Rigos had a ridiculous afternoon, two singles and a triple!!!! Starting pitcher Anthony ‘Double Duty’ Pitre another pitcher/hitter phenom had a double in the first and threw three complete innings. Catcher Corey ‘Pudge’ Rutkin batting seventh, shook off a little bit of a batting slump, to lead off the second with a solo shot to left that bounced off the wall for the game’s only homerun. Corey caught the entire game, making two stunning plays. In the first he threw out a runner stealing second, slowing stealing attempts later in the game. He also made a tremendous tag out at home off a beautiful throw by second baseman Brendan ‘The Kid’ Nolty. Max ‘Marvelous’ Cohn beat out a close play at first for a single with some first great base running. Both Brendan Nolty and Rich ‘King Richard’ Lofrano had really great at bats, making good contact but were up against some excellent work in the field by the opponent. They bothhowever made up for it with their gloves. Nolty made plays all day long at second with some beautiful catches. Lofrano earned the game MVP fielding a huge shot to right field and making a laser throw to first to get the runner out. Utility man, Jason ‘Joltin’ Seidman played a solid second and third base in this big hitting high scoring game. Kudos go to all and special thanks to Coaches Lori and Sal.

Game 2 held at Manor Oaks, field 1 and the Nationals keep up the momentum. There were hot plays enough in every inning of this hit-fest, to warm the toes and noses of the capacity crowd. William Rho, Aidan Chun, Daniel Reilly, Ben Bidner, Erik Lyngstad-Hughes, led the way with solid hitting. Equally notable were the offensive and defensive contributions of Jack Kareff, Jonathan Grenard and Michael Frising, who not only provided power but showed great improvement making timely fielding plays. One for the record books was the notable defensive combination of Jackson Benjamin at the pitcher’s position and Cooper Alwadish at first base who provided all three put-outs in the only scoreless inning in this big-run thriller. The Nationals’ defense has kept the opposition in check with smooth defensive contributions from James Prado, Jack Knupfer and Jon Ziebitsch who showed some real gold-glove style.

Although Mother Nature continued to make the baseball conditions unbearable, the Diamondbacks did not let it get in the way of playing good baseball. The Pitching staff made up of Christopher Bruccoleri, Cenzo Montoni, Mathew Merolla, and Nicholas Levkulic, hurled five scoreless innings. Stranding runners on base had become a speciality for the Diamonbacks until today. AJDevito, Brendan Slaterry, Daniel Mattei, Mathew Castelli, and Daniel Son, all had big hits with runners in scoring position. The overall offense was fantastic today as all the players had hits. The hustle awards go to Cenzo Montoni, Mathew Merolla, Christopher Bruccoleri, Nicholas Levkulic, Mathew Castelli, Daniel Mattei, and Brendan Slattery, as they ran the bases well. The defense award goes to Nickolas Levkulic as he made multiple 6 to 3 put outs. Lastly, the most improved player award goes to Daniel Son as he proved practice can make perfect with excellent base running and a bases clearing hit down the third base line.

Gigi’s Pizza Angels
The offense was led by Philip Menist who had 2 hits and 2 RBI’s,Spenser Horowitz had a 2 RBI double,Eric Madenberg had a single and 2 stolen bases William Regan and Jake Blancher also added a hit and each stole a base. Ian Tsao chipped in with a walk and 2 stolen bases. Paul Depaulis showed patience at the plate with 2 walks. Hans Dewitte,Nicholas Moundros and Andrew Apaza walked as well. On the mound it was tough to grip the ball on this very chilly saturday in April. Brian Kornreich pitched a solid 2 innings in his pitching debut,followed by another 2 by William Regan. Philip Menist pitched an inning and the game was finished by Jake Blancher. In the field there were 2 solid plays by Brian Kornreich as he was a cat on the mound. Philip Menist also recorded a put out from Left field in the 3rd

The Marlins offense had some big hits on Thursday evening. Phlip Menist had 2 hits including an RBI triple, Spencer Horowitz had a 2 RBI double, Eric Madenberg had a base clearing double and Jake Blancher ripped a double over the left fielder’s head. In addition Ian Tsao and William Regan had RBI singles, Paul Depaulis also had a RBI. Nicolas Moundros, Vincent Gambino,Brian Kornreich,Hans Dewitte each walked twice to help the Marlins offense. In the field Paul Depaulis pitched a solid first,followed by Vincent Gambino who impressed with his first stint on the mound. Philip Menist pitched a solid 2 innings and the game was finished by a solid inning by Eric Madenberg. Eric madenberg also made a nice play at first in the fourth. Andrew Apaza also showed a solid glove in the field at 2nd base.

The City Line Florist Tigers
The Gair, Gair & Conason, et al Angels took on the City Line Florist Tigers in an exciting Instructional scrimmage at Merillon Field on a cold and windy Saturday morning. Even the frigid weather could not keep the Angels from soaring high or their loyal fans from coming out to support them. The Tigers were a fearsome team and roared mightily but the Angels used their charm and grace to tame those Tigers. [No one actually knew or kept the score but it was a great game!] The Angels wore their hitting shoes today, with big hits from Olivia Reese, Amanda Putter, Amanda Rosenberg, Ryley Lum, Priya Abraham, Katherine Wang and Eily Montenegro. Spectacular fielding plays were made by Julia Renney, Emily Speter, Ashley Wu and Melanie Ranieri. Cathy Yang also showed her skills during the instructional drills.

The Stutzman Funeral Homes Brewers and. Eddie’s Pizza Marlins played on 4/14/11 at Dietz Dairy Field in a well played game. Frankie Stigliano walked scored a run and made a great play in centerfield to cut off a hit and hit the cut off man with the relay throw. Aaron Lesser had a key single, scored a run stole a base and made a nice play at shortstop. Sam Motelson pitched getting three outs on strikeouts and was on base twice. Matt Rivera walked driving in a run and made a nice play at first base on a throw. Jared Puntus walked and drove in a run and made some nice plays at first base as well. Danny McCellan drove in two runs with a hard single. Adrian Belcum pitched a scoreless first inning and walked twice and scored a run. Siv Patel walked twice scored a run and hit a hard line drive that the first baseman caught. William Lentini walked twice, singled scored two runs and pitched an inning with a strikeout of a batter. Justin Tamara had a booming double scored two runs stole two bases and made some excellent throws at catcher. It was a good all around game with good hitting, pitching and defense.

The Stutzman Funeral Homes Brewers played the Piccolo Italian Gourmet Rangers on 4/16/11 on a cold rainy day. Justin Tamara reached base twice scored a run and stole two bases and pitched a scoreless inning striking out two batters.William Lentini hit a hard shot that was caught by the pitcher and made two putouts at first base. Siv Patel pitched a scoreless third inning and hit a line drive that the shortstop caught on a nice play. Adrian Balkcom was 2 for 3 with a run scoring single and a double. Jared Puntus walked and stole a base and made a nice play at first base. Matt Rivera stole two bases scored a run and made a nice catch on a throw to complete a double play. Danny McCellan was 2 for two with two stolen bases two runs scored and two rbis. Aaron Lesser waked twice stole a base and drove in a run. Virag Shah pitched an inning recording two strikeouts and drove in a run with a hard hit fielder’s choice. Sam Motelson walked was hit by a pitch and made a nice play at shortstop throwing out the batter. The boys are improving each week and play well individually and as a team.

The Applebee’s Dodgers had a good second instructional session on a very brisk Saturday morning. After practicing their baseball skills, the Dodgers enjoyed their game against the Cardinals. Dodgers Lance Yetikyel, Zachary Stoyer and Sanay Shay hit the ball far and hard off the tee and young Aedan Cotter sprinted to first base twice. Connor Gould and Aidan Smith played their positions in the field wonderfully and Justin Hazlewood fielded a few firmly hit ground balls . Aidan Multani continues to hit and field like a real ballplayer and Christopher Erxleben made a few key catches. Robert Teets also played really well and ran too first base very fast when he hit the ball. Although it was a cold morning, the Dodger team worked hard , kept warm, and learned alot.

In what proved to be an exciting spring season opening game on a cold and rainy night, the mighty Giants displayed solid pitching and patience at the plate against an impressive Mariners team at the Merillon Complex this evening. The team’s pitching star was John Napolitano who made his Minors Division debut with 7 strikeouts over 3 solid innings and also contributed offensively with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Also making his Minors pitching debut was Max Silverstein who had one strikeout before leaving the game after a collision with a base runner on a play at the plate. Gregory Andreopoulos also contributed a solid inning on the hill with 2 strikeouts of his own. The offensive star for the Giants was Fernando Robayo with 2 singles and 2 RBIs while Dawson Tankersley singled and later scored a run. Christopher Valentine and Brian Korpacz also contributed offensively, each with a run scored. Patrick McTiernan did a solid job behind the plate at catcher while Jesse Romano, Scott Schanter, Harman Takhar, Matthew Notine and Alex Garabedian each flashed the leather in the field. Go Giants!

Good game on a chilly Friday night. The dodgers were led offensively by Nicholas Ungania who was 3-3. Three other players were a perfect 2-2 including Ralph Bonelli, Daniel Simmons and Thomas Rubinic. The defensive combination of Nicholas Ungania and Stephen Bracco helped keep the scoring down. The boys had fun and a great game. Robert J Kurre & Associates, PC Dodgers vs Newman Orthodontics Brave. All around well played game on Sunday. All the Dodgers hit well. Vincent Pepe led the hitting with 3 hits in the game while playing great at catcher. Great defensive efforts by Justin Rosen, Joseph Mattei and Nicholas Ungania. Dr. Barbaro Orioles (12)
The Rays got back on the winning track with a hard fought 15-12 victory over the outstanding Orioles. The Rays jumped out to leads of 5-0 and10-4, only to see the Orioles fight back tie the game at 10-10 going into the final inning. The Rays were able to take the lead for good in the top of the final inning thanks to a leadoff double by Brian Volk (who came around to score on the play), followed by a series of hits and walks by the rest of the lineup. The Rays’ offense came alive and was led by the powerful bats of Jake Dieber (2 RBI double), Brian Volk (double and triple), Matthew Solomon(big RBI single), Sean McClellan and Tyler Dauble. The pitching was once again sound, featuring Joey Jacobs (2 strong innings), Jake Dieber (making his Minors debut), Jack Tucker and Sean McClellan (who shut the door on a final rally). Defensively the Rays were solid, thanks to nice playing by Joe Sullivan, Jack Tucker (excellent behind the plate), Angelo Ferrigno, Evan Chaleff and Sean O’Connor.

Grant Thornton LLP Pirates (6)
Facing the dangerous one-two punch of Michael Kurre and Sean O’Leary, and the rest of the powerful Pirates line-up, the mighty Mariners suffered their first defeat of the season in a 6-5 nail biter. James Castaldi was impressive in his pitching debut, notching 6 Ks in his two innings of work. In the top of the third, with the Pirates threatening to blow the game open, second baseman Thomas Mangin made a stunning outstretched grab of a scorched line-drive to end the rally. Down 6-1 in the bottom of the third, the Mariners’ bats came alive following Jimmy Denara’s hit-by-pitch with doubles by Andrew Colgan, Dominick Picirrillo and Michael Zuschlag to score three runs. Nick Lopez led off the fourth with a single and scored on Parth Patel’s base-hit to bring the Mariners within one run, but the Pirates pitching shut-down the Mariners’ offense for the rest of the game. John Denara and Brandon Knupfer, both fresh off the disabled list, and Harrison Nettler and Shawn Chacko all contributed with solid defense.

New Hyde Park Funeral Home Blue Jays (4)
The mighty Mariners were locked in a tie going into the bottom of the fifth. Parth Patel led off with a sharp single up the middle and promptly stole second. John Denara followed with a clutch single, which brought the go-ahead run to third with no out. With the crowd at its feet, Michael Zuschlag laced a line-drive single to the outfield bringing in the winning run. The Mariners didn’t stop there. Back-to-back singles by Dominick Picirrillo and James Castaldi brought in three more insurance runs to ice the win. Of course, the game wouldn’t have been close if Jimmy Denara hadn’t made a brilliant catch on a long fly ball to left that was headed for the seats earlier in the game. Andrew Colgan launched his second home run of the season to keep pace with James Castaldi, who belted his third earlier in the game. Thomas Mangin continues to swing a hot bat, smacking a single, but was robbed of a second hit in the fourth. Brandon Knupfer and Harrison Nettler also contributed with a fighting spirit and good defense. .

The Twins played their first night game of the early season on Friday. The boys braved the frigid temperatures to put forth a valiant effort against an incredibly tough Dodgers team. Thankfully, Sunday afternoon’s game was played under much more forgiving circumstances. Sunny skies and significantly warmer temperatures led to an outburst of offense and solid defense from the Twins.

Coming off the disabled list with a loose tooth, Liam Nihan made significant contributions on offense and defense. Parker Cohen, Evan Lipp, Michael Femia, Zachary Israel and Filippo Taravella had big days at the plate while Tristan Pia, LJ Tsiforas, Jeremy Wong, Timo Kurpiewski and Philip Garofalo led the way on defense. The Twins missed regulars starters Jack Nathan and David Son on Sunday, but the duo was part of the group who dealtwith Friday night’s freeze. The Twins are really coming together as ateam and have a lot to look forward to this season. Look out lower-farms division opponents!

It was an exciting game between two great teams. Leading the offense for the Braves was Kenny Hirschfeld with 5 hits. Matthew Heimowitz & Jimmy Weedon had 4 hits each. Edward Mauceri,Joseph Vieni & Jaden Weisser had 3 hits each. Leading the defensive for the Braves was Ryan Wasserman & Alex Schwartz turning a double play. A second double play was turned by Jimmy Weedon & Matthew Bloom. Stephen Lopez contributed with 2 hits & 2 runs scored. A great all around team effort.

It was another exciting game for the mighty Giants who displayed strong pitching, reliable fielding and an offensive surge to secure their first victory of the season against a very good Pirates team at the Merillon Complex this afternoon. Starter Max Silverstein earned his first win of the young season with a 6 strikeout performance over 3 innings while John Napolitano turned in 2 solid innings of relief with 5 strikeouts of his own and Gregory Andreopoulos pitched the final inning of the game with 2 strikeouts and 3 forced ground outs. The pitching trio also combined offensively for 3singles, 3 RBIs and 5 runs scored. The offensive stars for the Giantswere Fernando Robayo with a double, 4 RBIs and a run scored and Scott Schanter with 2 singles and 2 RBIs. Also contributing offensively was Christopher Valentine with 4 walks, 2 stolen bases and 3 runs scored and Dawson Tankersley who stole 2 bases after being hit by a pitch in the bottom of the 4th inning and then eventually came around to score the Giants final run of thegame. Patrick McTiernan once again did an outstanding job behind the plate at catcher as did Harman Takhar who caught the final inning of the game. The two catchers also contributed offensively with 3 walks, 2 stolen bases and 2 runs scored. Jesse Romano and Alex Garabedian added to the bottom line with an RBI and run scored, respectively while Brian Korpacz flashed the leather in the field. Go Giants!

It was another close game for Hand Rolled Bagels Reds, who came up one run shy of their first win. The team was down by four runs after the first inning, but rallied back after solid hitting from Anthony DePompeis who hit a two run double in the third to bring the team within two runs. Elliot Weissman’s great pitching in the 2nd and 3rd innings kept the game close, while Dylan Kareff tossed a scoreless inning in the fourth. We had moments of brilliance on the field as well, including Nick Femia who scooped up a hard grounder at third base, and then threw a rocket across the field to get out the speedy runner out.Teamwork was the name of the game, as Anthony DePompeis played heads up ball at catcher, and thew to Mike Rose at short, who then chased down a player trying to steal second, only to toss it to first baseman Greg Capelle who tagged the player to end the inning.
