Café Ablaze Christian Coffeehouse
Popular longtime school Band Director, Peter Stanganelli, will lead his own Christian rock band, Peter Stanganelli and Rapture. Preceding them onstage will be Jeffrey Ballard, an accomplished jazz saxophonist, singer and youthful ordained church elder. Seating is at elegantly-decorated candlelit tables in a beautifully decorated “café.” Offerings include flavored coffees and teas, delectable desserts, a healthy fruit salad and bottled water. Half the band’s proceeds benefit LI’s Interfaith Nutrition Network. Doors open at 7 p.m.; performance begins at 7:30 p.m. Half-hour intermission includes door prize drawings and gelato. Benefit Concert
Uruguayan-American pianist Polly Ferman will present a benefit concert at 8 p.m. at the Adelphi University Performing Arts Center on the campus of Adelphi University, 1 South Ave. The concert is presented by HOLA of Garden City. Proceeds from this special event will benefit the De La Salle School for Boys in Freeport and Pan American Musical Art Research of Manhattan. Ms. Ferman will perform a program of classic tangos, habaneras and milongas in which she will present the music and its history, which she has brought to audiences around the world. The evening will also feature a post-concert meet-the-artist reception. Tickets for the concert and reception are $80 and are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law. Your Hit Parade
Hofstra Entertainment presents Your Hit Parade – Celebrating the Music of the 1930s, May 14 (8 p.m.) and May 15 (2 p.m.) at the John Cranford Adams Playhouse, South Campus. There will be a special tribute to the songs of 1935, in honor of Hofstra’s 75th anniversary. The concert features a 10-piece all-star band and features guest vocalists. Songs include Little Girl Blue, A Fine Romance, Body and Soul, All of Me, Stardust, All or Nothing at All, Just One of Those Things, Goody, Goody, My Romance and My Heart Belongs to Daddy. Free Workshop on Oriental Medicine for Breast Cancer Patients
Oriental medicine can improve the health and quality of life of women or men undergoing conventional medical treatments for breast cancer. The melding of Oriental and conventional medicine creates a dynamic duo in breast cancer treatment. OM has various modes of treatment that include: acupuncture, massage, Chinese herbs, moxibustion, qi gong (a movement and breath exercise), dietary and lifestyle recommendations and more. Breast cancer patients are invited to see some of these modalities demonstrated and enjoy an evening of balance and relaxation. The workshop is conducted by Liz Snow, BS, MS, an Oriental medicine practitioner with a private practice in East Norwich. Ms. Snow was a member of a task force that developed Oriental medicine protocols for treating breast cancer survivors and is a breast cancer survivor. 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Alumni House, 154 Cambridge Ave., Adelphi University, Garden City. Organ Recital
Alistair Nelson is the associate organist and choirmaster at the Cathedral of the Incarnation, where he directs the Cathedral Girls’ Choir and Schola Cantorum. Alistair grew up in Sydney, Australia, and in 2005 won the Open Section of the Sydney Organ Competition. In 2007, Alistair graduated with a master of music degree from Yale University, studying with Thomas Murray and Martin Jean. He has made a Young Artists recording with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation which, along with his Yale degree recital, has been broadcast on ABC Classic FM. He will be performing music of Maurice Durufle, Sigfrid Karg-Elert and Camille Saint-Saens. The recital will be at 8 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Incarnation. Bereavement Groups

•Group 1: A woman’s bereavement group is available to help women share and learn about their grief. Groups are held on a weekly basis and are facilitated by a licensed clinical social worker.
•Group 2: A 12-week bereavement support group is available for children ages 7 to 9. Groups will be held on Saturdays and are facilitated by a licensed social worker.
NC Coalition Against Domestic Violence
The Coalition is a member agency of the Garden City Community Fund, United Community Fund of Great Neck, Community Chest of Port Washington and United Way of LI. Call 222-2293 for information the following:
•Support groups with individual counseling for incest survivors and survivors of rape and sexual assault. Services are confidential and free of charge. These services are also extended to family members and partners of survivors.
•The coalition operates a safe home for battered women and their children. The Coalition’s Safe Home for Abused Families provides shelter, advocacy and legal assistance, in a safe, warm, supportive, attractive environment. Call the 24-hour hotline 542-0404. The hotline and all services are free and confidential and a counselor can help you find safety.
•If you are 60 or older and suffering from abuse, mistreatment or neglect at the hands of family members or someone who is living with you, help is available. Quilt Exhibit
The Mallette Gallery at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Central Nassau, 223 Stewart Ave. (at Nassau Blvd.), Garden City, will feature an exhibit of quilts by Janet through May 31. Sons of Italy

Cradle of Aviation Museum
In the world of aviation, signals and coded messages are an important part of how airplanes and air traffic control speak everyday. The Cradle of Aviation Museum has a variety of free family activities. Walk through the eight museum galleries and you’ll walk through over 100 years of aerospace history with 75 planes and space craft and a variety of examples of how pilots navigated and communicated from the early days of flight through the space program. Museum activities are free with admission and are available each day from noon to 4 p.m. The museum also is home to the IMAX Dome Theatre and is located on Charles Lindbergh Blvd., Museum Row. Epilepsy Foundation

•Free Puppet Show on Seizure Disorder. A free children’s program on epilepsy using the internationally acclaimed “Kids on the Block” troupe of puppets to public and private elementary schools.
