Ivan Plisic
Ivan Plisic, 76, of Sarasota, FL, died peacefully in his home April 21, 2011. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Ljubica Plisic and two children, a daughter Ljiljana Plisic, MD, of Killingworth CT, her partner Toni Brienza and their son Jordy; a son Damir Plisic of East Norwich, his wife Elizabeth and their children Douglas, Alyssa and Joseph.
He was born in 1934 to the late Ivan and Ivana Plisic on Garica Otok Krk in Croatia. He was the third of five children. He is survived by two brothers, Franjo and Anton Plisic and their families; two sisters, Ifka Simurina and Jele Plisic and their families who still reside in Croatia. He came with his family to the United States in 1969. He worked in the heavy construction industry and retired in 1998. He and his beloved wife lived in Sarasota, FL, since retirement.
He loved to fish and spend time on his boat. He had a green thumb and always had a beautiful garden with lots of vegetables, flowers and fruit trees. While in Florida his balcony was always full of basil, geraniums and palms. After retirement he started to bake bread, sweet bread (pogaca) and banana bread. Many people in the condominium where they lived dropped by for a taste of his breads. He also loved to play cards, play boccie and sing. He was so very proud of his children and his grandchildren.
He will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Calling hours were held at the Oyster Bay Funeral Home and funeral services/Mass were held at St. Paul the Apostle, Brookville, followed by burial services at Flushing Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tidewell Hospice of Sarasota Florida.
