Obituary: Beverly Baker Mohlenhoff

Beverly Baker Mohlenhoff, age 86, of Oyster Bay Cove, died April 29, 2011 after a long illness.

Born in the Cove in 1924 to Theodore and Gladys (Van Wagner) Baker, she was the second of five siblings who included Barbara (Kassner), Howard, Hugh and Bettina. During the years Beverly attended the local Cove School, Mrs. Edith Roosevelt was still carrying on the Roosevelt tradition of presenting the children with Christmas gifts each year.

She continued her education at Oyster Bay High School, Class of 1942, where she excelled at sports, including volleyball, field hockey and softball, and at secretarial courses. Upon graduation, she was hired to be a secretary at the high school and from 1942 to her retirement in 1990 she worked periodically either full-time or part-time for the Oyster Bay-East Norwich school district, working at one time or another in every school building and many different departments.

Beverly Baker was married to Edward H. Mohlenhoff of Bethpage, on February 17, 1946 at Christ Church, Oyster Bay. They lived on Walnut Avenue in East Norwich for almost 15 years and on Tooker Avenue, Oyster Bay, for almost 20 years until Edward died in 1993.

She is survived by a son, Edward C. and a daughter Linda Bruder, both of Oyster Bay Cove; a grandson, Jason E. Bruder (Shannon) of Washington DC; a sister, Bettina Valentine (Robert) of Bayville and sister-in-law, Irene Baker of Vermont, as well as numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
