Over the Hill Gang Softball Report

The clash between Autocraft and Lockie & Nowachek Family Chiropractors, both courting 1-2 records, was one of those old time barnburners with Autocraft coming out on top 17-15. There were some great moments for Autocraft that overcame the bad. The topper was a home run blast by Donnie Simone that cleared the fence behind the trees in left center, something rarely seen. Mike Ferreti kept L&N honest by pitching a strong game giving little or nothing away. Veteran Dave Rubino looked like his early days having a multi-hit night including one off the pole in deep left center. Aldo Balducci, Joe “Mr. Steady” Lutz, Dennis “Ace” Oehl, and Brian Landy all had big nights at the plate, as did Big Mike Mormino. Frankie “Quatro cinco seis” promised his teammates a hit next game.

On Friday, May 13 Moby Drugs beat Paradox Café, 22-16. Both teams had about an hour and a half of nothing but good clean fun. Just collectively watching home runs being dumped over a fence was not to be on the “Big Field”. So the complete game had to be played between the lines and played it was.

As it should be, individual stats were meaningless for Moby (now 3-1) especially when everybody made a contribution and constantly picked each other up. It really made for a great game win or lose. But if one person deserves the proverbial nod its Don Meritz for pitching one of his best games against the fierce Paradox line-up (also now 3-1). Donny also fielded 3 or 4 put outs (a personal best).
