The Plainview-Old Bethpage Board of Education would like to thank all our stakeholders for your support in passing both our 2011-12 School Budget and Capital Reserve propositions by 65 percent!
Thanks to your support we are able to maintain our educational programs, sports teams, clubs, and staff, even in these difficult economic times.
The Board of Ed understands the tax burden on our community as we all struggle to get through the recession. That is why we will continue our multi-year planning, exploring new cost savings measures and evaluating our programs at every level to see what can be delivered more effectively and what needs to be changed. We will continue to balance the needs of our community with the economic realities of our times while always remembering that children come first.
By also approving the Capital Reserve expenditure and combining it with the capital funds in the budget, we will be investing over $5 million in our infrastructure and facilities, including all new boys’ and girls’ locker rooms at POBJFK High School; masonry repairs at POB Middle and Old Bethpage; new windows for both the Parkway and Pasadena gymnasiums; skylight replacements at both Mattlin and Stratford Road; plus district wide masonry projects, safety improvements, parking lot and curb repairs. We will also be investing in an all-new phone system that will improve communications and generate cost savings for the district. While you have now approved the funding for these projects, we must still submit our plans to the State Education Department for approval. As a result of this process most of this work will take place during the summer of 2012.
So we say thank you, once again, to all our stakeholders, including our teachers, staff and administrators; the Buildings and Grounds teams that keep our buildings up and running; and our parents and the PTA who always advocate and fight for our children. We are grateful to everyone in our community who appreciates and values our public education system and our district. Thank you.
