Letter: Kelty Thanks Voters

I want to express my sincerest thanks to all who turned out in the pouring rain and were able to cast a vote for me on May 17th. I am humbled by the trust you put in me with your vote. I am so sorry that we came up short for now. I want to express my deepest concern and sympathy to all who approached me on May 17th and told me that you were unable to cast a vote for me due to problems with the levers in the voting booths. These problems should have been addressed immediately on the day of the vote. Unfortunately, they were not.

I have addressed this issue with the proper authorities and I am seeking resolutions to these problems. The voting machines were impounded. This is not “sour grapes” on my part. As recently as Sunday night, I received yet another complaint from a voter who could not pull down my lever. If you had any problem voting on May 17th, please contact me immediately. Your complaints will be held in the strictest confidence. Thank you.

Brian Kelty, Island Trees

(Editor’s note: It was confirmed on Tuesday, May 31 with the Chief Clerk’s office for the Nassau County Board of Elections that the voting machines from Island Trees School District have been impounded, pending further investigation. No further information was available at press time.)
