A 16-year-old from Port Jefferson Station has been getting some attention for her performances on NBC singing competition “The Voice.”

Raquel Castro, a member of Team Christina, is the youngest contestant on the show. Despite her age, this is not her first time in the spotlight. In 2004, she starred as the daughter of Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck in the movie “Jersey Girl.” Since then she’s appeared in “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” along with other television show appearances and a few movies.

It may come as a surprise that this girl has only began professional voice training a few months prior to the show. Because of her unique voice, charisma, and determination, Castro has made it to the first round of the live shows of “The Voice.” In the Week Five Battle, Castro took on the song “Only Girl” by Rihanna, and sang against former contestant Julia Eason. Castro won the singing battle, and will advance onto the next round while Eason goes home.

Since Christina Aguilera happens to be one of Castro’s favorite artists, she is more than excited to be on the singer’s team for the show.

“Dreams come true. This has been my dream since I was four years old. I’m very excited, I’m so thankful, and I feel completely blessed right now,” Castro told “The Voice” correspondent, Alison Haislip after Aguilera picked her for her team in the blind audition.

“This is work time for me now. It was a great experience, and I had a lot of fun, but now this is what I want to do and I have to focus now,” she added.

What are Aguilera’s thoughts on the budding singer? She has been a big fan of Castro on the stage from the first week of performances. In a review from Zap 2 It, it is said that Aguilera is moved by Castro’s voice, and even states that “great things come in small packages,” referencing the artist’s petite stature.

Even though Castro was a child star, she is like any other teenager. She tells NBC that she likes all types of music, but her favorite artists are Beyonce and of course, Christina Aguilera. In addition, she is a Justin Bieber fan, and sings his songs in the shower. She has two brothers and two sisters, her favorite kind of ice cream is mint chocolate chip, and if she were stranded on an island, she would bring her phone, laptop, and food.

Viewers will have to tune in to watch Castro grow as an artist and performer.
