Replacement of the Franklin Avenue Crosswalks
As I write this column, work continues on the Franklin Avenue crosswalks. As of today, only a few more nights will be required to complete this project. Again, this is all subject to weather conditions.

If you have any questions regarding this project, please contact the Public Works Department at (516) 465-4004 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Please use caution when driving/walking past the areas that are under construction.

Parking Field #5 – Rear of 520 Franklin Avenue —
Garden City Medical Center
Parking Field #5 was closed to the public on Wednesday, June 1 with the exception of the row of parking closest to the building. That row of parking will remain open for the first one to two weeks of the project, after which it will be closed as well. Work is expected to last throughout the month of June in this parking field. Temporary parking restrictions will be posted along Fifth and Sixth streets and staff hired by the medical building will be present to help direct the public to other parking areas arranged by the medical building owners. People may also use Parking Field #6E (south of Seventh Street and east of Franklin Avenue).

Memorial Day Observance
On Memorial Day, the trustees and I had the honor of attending the parade and Memorial Day Ceremony, which was held in front of the refurbished War Memorials on Seventh Street. I would like to commend the efforts of the William Bradford Turner Post No. 265 and the American Legion Auxiliary under the leadership of Commander John C. Donovan and President Joan Nedelka. I would also like to congratulate the Grand Marshall of the ceremony, Marine Corps. Lieutenant John Adamo. I would like to also thank the Board of Trustees War Memorial Committee, Village residents Cyril Smith and Sue Alvey as well as Messrs. Chris Markin, Mike Didyk and Domenick Stanco of the village’s Public Works Department along with the crew of village employees who worked on this magnificent War Memorial to ensure that it was ready for Memorial Day.
Please keep all service personnel that serve our country proudly, and their families, in your thoughts and prayers.
The Belmont Festival at Garden City – Friday, June 10
The Belmont Festival Committee has advised my office that plans have been finalized for the 14th Annual Belmont Festival at Garden City – A Salute to the Wounded Warriors. This year’s event which will have a red, white and blue theme, will be held on Friday evening June 10, from 6 to 10 p.m. on Seventh Street. The opening ceremony will begin at 6:45 p.m. on the main stage. The five bands that will be featured this year include; Speak Easy, New Vintage, Five Stone, The Village Music Makers and Jerry and the New Comers. There will be some new special events such as Irish Step Dancing along with activities for the children including face painters and clowns. Please mark your calendar and make it a point to attend this annual family event.
In order to accommodate the event as safely as possible, Seventh Street will be cleared of parked vehicles starting at 4 p.m. and will be closed to all traffic at that time. Parking fields to the rear of the stores (7S and 7N) will remain open. If your car is parked on Seventh Street, please make sure that it is removed prior to 4 p.m. so that the Police Department does not need to take action to move these vehicles.

Village’s Website
I encourage residents to periodically utilize the village’s website for information regarding the village’s operations, as well as items of seasonal and special interest. The address is www.gardencityny.net. One item that is listed on the village’s homepage under the Heading of Administration is a sub-heading “Water Billing Information” which includes information on water reading.
