Spc. Daniel Fuentes Family Fundraiser Event

Kids get one free popcorn or cotton candy with paid admission, door prize for adults and kids, live music, performers, DJ- Big Rich, food and drinks, face painting, carnival games for kids, raffles and more. All proceeds go to: The Spc. Daniel A. Fuentes Memorial Scholarship Fund, ITHS graduating students and our troops with care packages, the Wounded Soldier Program, veterans and K-9 Friends. 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. at Island Trees Memorial Middle School, 48 South Wantagh Ave., Levittown. Crossfire Comes to Farmingdale

The JC Café at Farmingdale United Methodist Church, 407 Main St. (corner of Grant Ave.), will host contemporary Christian singing group Crossfire. Doors open at 7 p.m. with complimentary coffee and dessert and the program begins at 7:30 p.m. Suggested donation is $5. Crossfire, a popular group of four talented musicians, is well-known for its uplifting Christ-centered music. The public is invited to share what promises to be an exciting and inspiring evening. WALK like MADD to Eliminate Drunk Driving

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) of LI will host WALK like MADD, a non-competitive fundraising walk in Farmingdale. Registration begins at 9 a.m., with the ceremony beginning at 10 a.m., at Farmingdale State College, 2350 Broadhollow Rd., and will raise funds and rally support for MADD’s Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving. The event will be attended by Senator Charles J. Fuschillo Jr. and Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg, who together recently helped pass “Leandra’s Law” as well as Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office Chief Michael P. Sharkey, NC Chief Kevin Lowry and MADD’s National President, Laura Dean-Mooney. Family walk teams will be present honoring Police Officer Glen Ciano, Leandra Rosado, Katie Flynn, Stanley Rabinowitz, Police Officer Kenneth Baribault, Jason Shein and Karen Naclerio-Negrin, among many others who were killed or severely injured by drunk drivers. REPLICON XXV Scale Model Show/Contest

Held at the American Airpower Museum, 1230 New Hwy., Farmingdale, on June 11 and 12. The show features more than 40 categories, with awards in each, plus special awards. Additionally, raffles, kid’s make-n-take model program and vendors are included as well as the museum’s aircraft and armor displays. Admission: adults $12; seniors and veterans $10; first two children 6 to 12 years $8; additional children are free. Contest entrants: adult $15; juniors $12. PAL Youth Heart Health Awareness Day

The NC Police Activity League (NCPAL), Winthrop-University Hospital and CardiacScan Imaging are presenting Youth Heart Health Awareness Day from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Town Of Oyster Bay Hicksville Athletic Center, 167 Broadway, Hicksville. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, the leading cause of sudden cardiac death in people under 30, including athletes. It runs in families and affects over 15,000 people on Long Island. Learn about the risk factors, how screenings can help, and what you need to prevent a family tragedy. Special guest appearance by NY Islander Matt Moulson.

Runners Group

Baseball Day

Farmingdale Baseball Leagues’ (FBLI) annual Baseball Day will be held at Allen Park. The events start at 9 am. and goes throughout the day. There will be skill competitions for many of the divisions and all-star games for the AAA, Boys Juniors, Seniors and Majors Divisions. The Girls Softball teams will be playing exhibition games as well. Participation trophies will be presented to the younger divisions. Food will be available at the FBLI concession stand and at the sausage/pepper trailer. There will be a giant 28’ slide, moon bounce, carnival games, popcorn, cotton candy and Italian ices from Ralph’s. The chance book drawing will be held at 5 p.m. and there will be raffles available to win a big screen TV and Yankee tickets. Farmingdale Baseball invites everyone to come to the park and share in the fun.

Dr. Linda Opyr, Poet Laureate

Dr. Linda Opyr will be acclaimed the third Nassau County Poet Laureate (2011 – 2013) by the Nassau County Poet Laureate Society, which represents the poetry community in Nassau County, at the Allen Ellsworth Town Park Community Room, 45 Motor Ave., Farmingdale, at 2 p.m. Maxwelll Corydon Wheat Jr. (first NCPL) and Gayl Teller (second NCPL) will be present to read and pass on the “Baton of Laureateship” to Dr. Opyr. Light refreshments served and open read to follow. All are welcome to attend the ceremony.

Belief for Relief Fundraiser

Come to the WhoVille Bar and Grill, 339 Broadway, Bethpage, from 7 to 11:30 p.m. for a fundraiser for the charity, Belief For Relief. The mission is to provide monetary assistance to families in financial distress because of job loss, illness or some other hardship. Admittance is $20, along with that comes a door raffle, which is a flat screen TV and a full buffet. There will also be an auction that you can participate in which has many nice prizes, included in them are tickets to Governors Comedy Club, nice restaurants, gym membership and many more things. Entertainment includes, The Electric Dudes (Classic Rock), Patty Moronne and Trouble No More Band (Southern Rock).

Free Irish Night Concert

The Ancient Order of Hibernians, Division 15 of Nassau County and Massapequa, presents an evening of Irish entertainment with live traditional Irish music by the Gabe Hickey Band, and featuring Champion Irish step dancers with an additional performance by the Tara Pipes and Drums of Massapequa. Festivities start at 7 p.m. at Brady Park on Front St. in the village of Massapequa Park. Homemade Irish soda bread, giftware and refreshments will be available. Stroke Life Society is a community organization of survivors and co-survivors in the pursuit of living and helping others. A stroke can be very isolating. This professionally facilitated group meets on Mondays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and allows participants opportunities to share feelings and strategies related to caring for a person with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia.
