Concert Series at the Gazebo Begins
The first concert of the Williston Park Gazebo Concert Series was held on June 16th at 7 p.m. As a special treat, the village had a barbecue in honor of Flag Day and our senior citizens. Further, the village also honored Williston Park couples who have been blessed to celebrate 50 or more years of marriage. Bring your chair and a friend and enjoy good company, good music and beautiful surroundings. Music will be provided for all ages from babies to our special senior friends. Hope to see you there!
This past weekend the “Jewel of Williston Park”, the Roger Fay Pool, opened with a preview for the upcoming season. Both Saturday, June 4th and Sunday, June 5th were the traditional “open house” sessions which allowed all to come visit and utilize the facility without having to be a members. The pool officially opened again on June 11th and June 12th, although for member use only. However all are invited to come and visit the site so as to become aware of all the pool has to offer and hopefully become members. Officially, the pool season will begin on June 18th with the pool opened daily until Labor Day. Although the “early bird special” has ended, memberships are still available. Staff is at the pool daily processing the submitted applications. This great facility is a bargain considering the daily cost compared to other forms of recreation. It’s close by, affordable and offers events for children of all ages. If you haven’t joined, or know neighbors and friends who haven’t, remind them!!!
I met with Inspector Canavan of the Third Precinct this past week to discuss common issues. As usual, the Inspector offered assistance and his department’s support for a safe community. He has been and indicated a willingness to continue to work with the village in all matters of mutual concern. We discussed the young adults who roam throughout the village on the weekends. While most are “kids being kids” there is a concern for inappropriate behavior. Parents need to be aware that our parks close at dusk and the young adults should not be “hanging out” in these areas. Graffiti, property destruction /abuse etc. will not be tolerated. It’s important that all demonstrate respect for village residents and property.
Thanks to our Recreation Committee for their successful Belmont event last Saturday. Tara Bridges, Tim Casey, Bill Casey, and Trustee Liaison Kevin Rynne put together what should become an annual event. There was fun for all and I understand a few participants earned a few dollars thanks to a few well placed bets.
As school comes to an end and our young are out in the village, it is extremely important that all drivers are conscious of the extra pedestrian traffic and drive accordingly. All are entitled to having safe streets. Part of my discussions with Inspector Canavan dealt with traffic safety. I’ve asked for traffic enforcement throughout the Village. The Inspector indicated a willingness to notify his staff and hopefully, although manpower is limited, the Inspector’s efforts will provide additional traffic enforcement. Avoid tickets by driving safely, without cell phone in hand.
