FOXNews reports that Glen Campbell, country-singer, has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. His wife made the announcement to People Magazine earlier today.

Campbell has had minor short-term memory loss for many years, but the news of him having Alzheimer’s was brought to him by doctors six months ago.

This country star has been popular for decades. He was born in 1936 in Delight, Arkansas. He was the host of a variety show The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour that was aired on CBS and he also acted along-side John Wayne in the film, True Grit, for which he won a Golden Globe.

Campbell made history in 1967 when he won four Grammys, in pop and country categories. He also won Male Vocalist of the Year from the Country Music Association. In 2005, the country singer was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. He’s recorded more than fifty albums in the past fifty years.

Glen Campbell has been married four times, and has eight children. Currently, he’s married to Kimberly Woolen, a Radio City “Rockette”, whom he met as the result of a blind date.

Although successful, the singer hasn’t seen success with the law. In 2003, he was arrested for drunk driving and a hit-and-run when he drove his BMW into another car in Phoenix. After leaving the scene, the police came to his home to arrest him and after getting locked up, he kneed a sergeant, leading to another charge, which was later dropped. In 2004, he was found guilty of an extreme DUI. He received a ten-day jail sentence.

This relates as to why Campbell’s wife made the news of his Alzheimer’s disease public. The 75-year-old artist has decided that he wants to do a tour of farewell live performances. His wife wanted the audiences and fans to be aware of his condition. According to FOX, she told People Magazine, “Glen is still an awesome guitar player and singer. But if he flubs a lyric or gets confused on stage, I wouldn’t want people to think, ‘What’s the matter with him? Is he drunk?’”
