The Odd Couple

Presented by The Sarah Grace Foundation for Children With Cancer. Inc., on June 24 and June 25. The fun and family-oriented show is based on Neil Simon’s Broadway play about two men – one a neat freak and the other a slob – attempting to share an apartment despite their lifestyle and housekeeping differences. Performances will take place in the auditorium of Maria Regina RC Church in Seaford at 7 p.m. on both days. Tickets are $10 per person and proceeds will benefit the Sarah Grace Foundation, an all volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation dedicated to improving the quality of life of children with cancer while at the same time offering comfort and support to their families. The Sorcerer

The Gilbert & Sullivan Light Opera Company of LI will present performances of Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Sorcerer at 8 p.m. at Cluett Hall at St. Paul’s, 295 Stewart Ave., Garden City. The production features a cast of 25 performers and the critically acclaimed, 18-piece Gilbert & Sullivan Light Opera Orchestra. Tickets are priced at $25 adults; $20 students and seniors. Additionally, two children under the age of 12 will be admitted free when accompanied by an adult who has purchased one full-price ticket. Fine Arts and Craft Summer Spectacular

The show will feature over 80 artisans both days selling hand crafted jewelry, fiber, stained glass, original art, turned wood, clothing, floral arrangements, gourmet foods, ceramics, handmade soaps, lotions and more. New creations will be introduced for the summer and each artisan will be present to answer questions or customize orders. Michelle, the Artisan Gourmet, representing her company Sweet Silver Lining Desserts will be back with recipes and tips on baking gourmet style. Be sure to stick around and sample her delicious treats. June 25 and 26 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. Paul’s Field House, 295 Stewart Ave., Garden City. Free admission. Vendors still being accepted. Free Breast Cancer Support Groups

The Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer program is offering new support groups. There is no cost for any group; however pre-registration is required. All groups meet at Adelphi University School of Social Work, Garden City. For information or to sign up, call Sandi Kafenbaum, LCSW, 877-4314, or the Breast Cancer Hotline at 800-877-8077. Groups are as follows:

•Women with breast cancer, an evening group will meet weekly for 8 weeks on Tuesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m., tentatively beginning on July 5.

•Daytime group for women with breast cancer will meet weekly for 8 weeks on Thursday mornings from 10 to 11:30 a.m., tentatively beginning on July 7.

•Group for women with metastatic breast cancer will meet weekly for 8 weeks on Thursday afternoons from noon to 1:30 p.m., tentatively beginning on July 7.

•Monthly knit and talk group for women with breast cancer will meet from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on July 12 and Aug. 9.

•Other groups for teens, couples, spouses/partners, and men with breast cancer are available upon request.

Defensive Driving Courses

Six-hour course conducted by the AAA NY in the Garden City office located at 229 Seventh St. Save money; reduce violation points; sharpen skills. Stroke Support Groups

Stroke Life Society is a community organization of survivors and co-survivors in the pursuit of living and helping others. A stroke can be very isolating. By sharing experiences and encouraging one another, together we can face and overcome common challenges. All welcome. RSVP is requested but not required. Cultural and Recreational Affairs Board of Commissioners meets on the first Tuesday of each month (except July and August) at 7:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s Senior Center.

Architectural Design Review Board meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 8 p.m. at Village Hall.

Zoning Board of Appeals meets at 7:30 p.m. at Village Hall on the fourth Tuesday of each month.

Planning Commission meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at Village Hall.

Environmental Advisory Board meets at 8 p.m. at Village Hall on the last Wednesday (except July and August) of each month.

•Irish American Society Social Gatherings every Monday at the Irish American Center, 297 Willis Ave., Minoela, from noon to 3 p.m. In the  tradition and mission of the Irish American Society we are here to make all welcome and be part of the local community. •Free Bereavement Group, a support group for individuals grieving the loss of a loved one meets at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays at the Ethical Humanist Society, 38 Old Country Rd. Call 741-7304.

•Anxiety and Depression Group, a free self-help group for anxiety, panic disorder, depression, OCD and other nervous fears now meets every Thursdays at 8 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church, corner of Chester Ave. and New Hyde Park Rd. Through the Recovery International process, members learn to manage stress, panic, anxiety, depression, anger, irrational fears, phobias, compulsions, obsessions and other emotional or behavioral problems. Members also learn how to face and manage psychosomatic symptoms such as heart palpitations, dizziness, shortness of breath, sweats, fatigue, headaches, numbness, chest pressure and sleep problems. All group leaders are trained lay volunteers who have experienced some type of difficulty with an emotional problem and practice the Recovery International method of self-help. •Look Good…Feel Better. Sponsored by LIJ Medical Center in association with the National Cosmetology Association, the Toiletry Fragrance Association and the American Cancer Society. The program reaches out to women with cancer and teaches them how to best apply makeup and wear their hair while undergoing cancer treatment. All women who attend receive a makeup kit filled with brand-name cosmetics valued at over $200.

•Calling All War Time Veterans (WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Iran, Iraq). VFW Garden City Park Post #120 invites you to become a member. •Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) was founded in 1978, is congressionally chartered and exclusively dedicated to Vietnam-era veterans and their families. •Round Robin Poetry Group. Indulge in an evening of poetry readings hosted by Carol Zimet and her loyal group of poets. •Young Widows/Widowers Social Group, a nonsectarian, nonprofit organization of widows and widowers ages 40 to 69 years of age. Fee for members is $3, nonmembers $5. •Zonta Club of LI, member of Zonta International, a worldwide service organization with a local club. Members help advance the status of women and are involved in many community service activities. The name Zonta is word taken from the Sioux and stands for honesty, trust, inspiration and the ability to work together for service and understanding. At meetings members discuss and learn about issues facing women, develop and conduct fun fundraising that benefits community programs and network with Zonta International programs. •LI Tourette Syndrome Association Support groups for those who have family members or other loved ones with Tourette Syndrome meet from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on the first Friday of each month at the DeMatteis Center, north side of Northern Blvd., Old Brookville (directly opposite the NY Institute of Technology campus). There are three separate support groups running simultaneously: one group for children, one for teens and one for parents/adults. Siblings of TS children are also invited. Free for LI-TSA members.
