Three Florida fishermen caught one giant squid.

The fishermen were around 12 miles off the shores of Stuart, Florida when they found this 23-foot-long, 200-pound dead squid.

WPTV reported that the find was very rare for those waters.

“They live in very deep water so they live hundreds to thousands of feet down so there’s no way for us to get into their environment to see what they’re doing,” said Slapcinsky, the Florida Museum Malacology Collection Manager, reported WPTV.

According to the Huffington Post, giant squids are known to grow much larger, reportedly 45 feet long and can weigh up to a ton!

The squid was brought to the Florida Museum of Natural History and is being preserved for research.  WPTV explains that scientists first preserved the squid in a chemical solution and took samples of skin and muscle for DNA analysis.
