Rodney King was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence this past week.

According to Beaumont Patch, King was driving a 1994 Mitsubishi in Moreno Valley Tuesday, when he was stopped by police and promptly handcuffed.

At 2:30 p.m., after observing King committing several traffic violations, officers from the Moreno Valley Police Department stopped him on Frederick Ave., in the City of Moreno Valley and performed a preliminary evaluation. He was taken to Moreno Valley Police Department for further evaluation after the preliminary evaluation indicated he may be driving while impaired.

A statement from the Moreno Valley Police stated that following the evaluation, Rodney Glenn King was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center.

According to the Washington Post, King has struggled with alcohol addiction for a long time and has been arrested several times. At one point, he was even featured on “Celebrity Rehab” and “Sober House.”

Back in 1991, King’s name became known around the nation after a videotape surfaced of King being beaten by Los Angeles police. The police were acquitted of charges and sparked the 1992 Los Angeles riots that led to over 50 deaths.

This March marked the 20th anniversary of the video that was taken by George Holliday. Holliday heard the commotion outside of his apartment, grabbed his handheld camera and captured the beating. It was used as a major piece of evidence in the trial of four officers involved in the beating.
