Tyler Hadley, a 17-year-old Florida resident, is accused of killing his parents with a hammer and throwing a party afterwards as their bodies lay in the bedroom. According to ABC News, Hadley is charged with two accounts of first-degree murder and is being held without bail.
Hadley allegedly murdered his parents, Mary Jo Hadley and Blake Maurice Hadley, by striking them repeatedly in the head and torso with a 22-inch framing hammer. According to police, Tyler then covered their bodies with books, towels, and clothes and locked their bedroom door, leaving the murder weapon in-between their bodies.
After the alleged murders, Tyler held a house party with approximately 60 guests. According to ABC News, Tyler sent out a Facebook invite to the party around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. During the party authorities were called to the house resulting from a noise complaint, but did not find anything unusual.
Later that night the police received an anonymous tip that Tyler had murdered his parents and showed up to the residence again at 4:20 a.m. Port Saint Lucie Police Capt. Don Kryak said Tyler was “nervous and panicky,” when officers arrived on the scene.
According to Huffington Post, investigators believe the parents were attacked outside their master bedroom and dragged inside the bedroom afterwards. Police are waiting for autopsy results but believe Mary Jo and Blake died of blunt-force trauma.
Mary Jo was an elementary school teacher and Blake worked for Florida Power and Light. Police said Tyler attended St. Lucie West Centennial High School but is yet to graduate. The teen’s motive for killing his parents is unclear.
