Yosemite National Park, some 1,200 square miles, is best known for its beautiful waterfalls– the same ones that claimed the lives of hikers this past week.
Last night, investigators were forced to call of the search after it became dark, reported the Huffington Post, but picked up again when it became light until Wednesday morning. L.A. Times reported that park officials said teams would continue to search for the victims.
Three hikers are believed to have been swept over the 317-foor Vernal Falls Tuesday, after emergency calls came in from witnesses claiming to have seen hikers in the water.
The group was reportedly swept away after ignoring warning signs and crossing a barricade to pose for pictures. One of the victims reportedly slipped and fell and the second victim slipped while trying to save her. A third victim slipped while trying to save the others.
Rangers closed a popular trail in the park, following the incident. According to the Associated Press, park officials often close areas when they feel a body might be recovered. It was reopened later.
According to the L.A. Times, the presumed dead were identified Wednesday as Hormiz David, 22, of Modesto; Ninos Yacoub, 27, of Turlock; and Ramina Badal, 21, of Modesto.
