The Oyster Bay High School track team is no stranger to the New York State championships. What makes this year particularly remarkable is that one of the athletes is a freshman. In her first year of running for the varsity cross country, winter track and spring track teams, Nicole Giannetti has been impressive. Nicole carries on a family tradition of excellence here in Oyster Bay. Nicole’s brother, Shane Giannetti of the class of 2010, made a name for himself in track and tennis.
Nicole Giannetti went to the state championship last fall with 10 other members of the cross country team. She was the MVP for both the winter track and the spring track this school year. Nicole achieved personal bests logging a 10:47 time for the 3000 meter and 4:59 for the 1500 meter. At the state meet at Caledonia/Mumford High School outside of Rochester, Nicole came in seventh in the 1500 meter.
Daniel Eng is an outstanding junior and a third year varsity athlete. Daniel is a specialist in the field events. He has mastered the high jump and is also a long jumper and triple jumper. At the state qualifier he jumped 5’8’’, placing him first among Division Two athletes. Daniel was one of the 11 Baymen to go to the State’s with the cross country team earlier this year and one of the two athletes to go to the States for spring track.
This is quite an accomplishment. Nicole and Daniel represented Oyster Bay East Norwich athletics with class.
