Singer Amy Winehouse was found dead in her London home on Saturday, according to multiple reports. She was 27 years old.
The singer—who suffered from problems with drugs and alcohol—was pronounced dead at her home in northern London. Two ambulance crews were sent to her house, but the singer died before they arrived, according to Associated Press. The cause of her death is not immediately known.
“On arrival, officers found the body of a 27-year-old female who was pronounced dead at the scene,” reads a police statement, according to Sky News.
Winehouse reportedly visited a rehab facility in May, but left after a week to continue touring.
The singer later cancelled those tour dates in Europe after she was booed during a concert in Serbia where she displayed erratic behavior.
Reports said that she greeted the audience “Hello, Athens,” and spent most of the time singing indecipherably and hugging her bandmates before the crowd of 20,000 booed her off the stage. Some audience members, who had paid a considerable amount on the tickets, even walked out.
“Despite feeling sure that she wanted to fulfill these commitments, she has agreed with management that she cannot perform to the best of her ability and will return home,” a statement from her reps read. “She would like to apologize to fans expecting to see her at the shows but feels that this is the right thing to do.”
Although she struggled with addiction, Winehouse saw some success when her album “Back to Black” won five Grammy Awards, including song and record of the year for “Rehab.”
“They tried to make me go to rehab but I said ‘no, no, no,’” reads the lyrics from her hit song “Rehab.” “Yes I’ve been black but when I come back you’ll know know know, I ain’t got the time and if my daddy thinks I’m fine, He’s tried to make me go to rehab but I won’t go go go.”
