On Friday, July 22 the Farmingdale Baseball Association held their first annual baseball tournament opening ceremonies commemorating the anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center and benefiting Tuesday’s Children. Tuesday’s Children is an organization that supports children that have lost a parent during the tragic events of that day. Twenty-one teams from the surrounding area will participate in the tournament that will last through Saturday, Aug. 13.
Jim and Kim DiSanti organized the tournament, along with the committee of friends and parents of the Farmingdale Baseball League. The Nassau County Pipe and Drum band led the parade onto the field at Pop’s Park in South Farmingdale. The South Farmingdale Fire Department flew the American Flag with the names of those who perished on 9/11 and performed color guard.
Mayor Butch Starkie, Legislator Joseph Belesi and Coach Jim DiSanti threw out the first pitches before a flyover by the Nassau County Police Helicopter.
The Farmingdale Greendogs from the traveling 8U, 9U and 10U teams were the stars of the opening ceremony. The Greendogs played their first games against the Far Rockaway Rocks.
