An Irving Berlin Celebration

Presented by Hofstra University Gray Wig Alumni Theater Company on Aug. 5, 6, 7 at the John Cranford Adams Playhouse, South Campus, Hofstra University, Hempstead. Show times are 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday; 2 p.m. on Sunday. This evening of music features Irving Berlin classics such as God Bless America, There’s No Business Like Show Business, Puttin’ on the Ritz, Blue Skies, and Always. Tickets are $25; $23 senior citizens (over 65) with ID; $15 matriculated student with ID. Members of the Hofstra community may purchase one ticket for $10 upon presentation of a current HofstraCard. Molloy Institute for Lifelong Learning – Open House

Molloy Institute for Lifelong Learning is sponsoring an open house to attract new members to join an interesting and invigorating program for retirees or people who work part time. Open House will be held at 2 p.m. at Molloy College Suffolk Center, Room 105, 7180 Republic Airport, East Farmingdale. Refreshments will be served. Classes are held Tuesdays and/or Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Presentations are delivered by Molloy faculty or professionals from legal, health care, literary, scientific, political and musical arenas. There is an annual fee for this program. Mill is a learning experience for the young in spirit. Meet people who want to meet you. Learn about lectures that are offered on literature, music, philosophy, history and more. Make friends and keep a rigorous mind. Dora the Explorer LIVE!

Plaza Theatrical Productions presents Dora the Explorer LIVE! Dora’s Pirate Adventure. Dora, her best buddy Boots the Monkey and the rest of their friends embark on an exciting trip to Treasure Island. The audience helps them navigate over Dancing Mountain, through Silly Singing Bridge and to confront the Pirate Piggies. All ends happily onstage with a “yo-ho-ho!” Aug. 13, 20, 27, 28 at 3 p.m. at the LI Children’s Museum, 11 Davis Ave., Garden City. Tickets are $12 per person ($10.00 each, for LICM members.) The performance runs for one hour and is followed by a meet and greet with the cast. Birthday parties welcome. Free Breast Cancer Support Groups

The Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer program is offering new support groups. There is no cost for any group; however pre-registration is required. Stroke Life Society is a community organization of survivors and co-survivors in the pursuit of living and helping others. A stroke can be very isolating. •Anxiety and Depression Group, a free self-help group for anxiety, panic disorder, depression, OCD and other nervous fears now meets every Thursdays at 8 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church, corner of Chester Ave. and New Hyde Park Rd. Through the Recovery International process, members learn to manage stress, panic, anxiety, depression, anger, irrational fears, phobias, compulsions, obsessions and other emotional or behavioral problems. Members also learn how to face and manage psychosomatic symptoms such as heart palpitations, dizziness, shortness of breath, sweats, fatigue, headaches, numbness, chest pressure and sleep problems. All group leaders are trained lay volunteers who have experienced some type of difficulty with an emotional problem and practice the Recovery International method of self-help. •Zonta Club of LI, member of Zonta International, a worldwide service organization with a local club. Members help advance the status of women and are involved in many community service activities. The name Zonta is word taken from the Sioux and stands for honesty, trust, inspiration and the ability to work together for service and understanding. At meetings members discuss and learn about issues facing women, develop and conduct fun fundraising that benefits community programs and network with Zonta International programs.
