The St. Dominic’s sixth grade CYO baseball team completed an undefeated season, 11-0, by winning the semi and final championship games in exciting fashion.
The semi-final game was an extra inning pitching duel won by Jack Barstow of St. Dominic’s. He pitched a shutout with relief from Harrison Treble. The winning run came from a base- loaded infield single by Evan Mattel.
The final was just as exciting as Cure of Arc jumped to a 3-0 lead. St. Dominic’s came roaring back in the bottom of the first with 3 runs of their own. After Harrision Treble was hit by a pitch, hits by Joseph Daniello, Jack Barstow, and Anthony LoRusso and a sack fly by Evan Mattel tied the score at 3. In the third inning the St. Dominic’s bats came alive again. Hits by Treble, Treiber, Barstow, and LoRusso produced two more runs and St. Dominic’s was ahead by 5-3.
The team showed fabulous defensive strategy in addition to the great pitching of Barstow with lights out relief by Treiber with St. Dominic’s winning the Nassau/Suffolk CYO Championship.
