Assemblyman McKevitt Hosts Fifth Annual Women of Distinction Awards Ceremony

Floral Park resident among those honored for service to community

Assemblyman Tom McKevitt hosted his fifth annual Women of Distinction event on Aug. 13 at the Albertson VFW. With more than 200 guests in attendance, including former recipients of the award, family, friends, and this year’s honorees, the event was a community-wide success, noted McKevitt.

“With the outpouring of support for these women in the community it is obvious that we are so fortunate to call them our friends and neighbors,” said McKevitt. “These women represent some of the most courageous and accomplished individuals in our state and nation. Taken together, their achievements and dedication have resulted in the continuous improvement of our quality of life and an enlargement of our sense of community here on Long Island.”

Floral Park Trustee Mary-Grace Tomecki was the keynote speaker for the event and resident Jane Cubilette was among those honored. Cubilette is a hard-working wife and mother of two. She not only works full-time, but also volunteers as a firefighter for the Floral Park Centre Fire Company. In early June 2010, Cubliette became the president of the Floral Park Centre Civic Organization. She has successfully organized a group of effective board members, and with their team work and her leadership have accomplished a great deal in a short time.

Cubilette has been responsible for restoring Memorial Park in Floral Park Centre, a WWII monument memorializing eight servicemen from the town who were killed during the war. Although for years the park was neglected, she communicated with the Town of North Hempstead and it was because of her efforts that the park has become a beautiful tribute that Floral Park Centre can truly be proud of.

Cubliette continues her efforts to beautify Floral Park Centre by hosting a Community Clean-up day at the Firehouse. As a Civic President, she also works continuously to find a solution to any problem that may arise in the community and is always available to help a neighbor in need.
