It is with deep regret that the Chief’s Office, the Board of Fire Commissioners, the officers and members of Engine Company 2 and Levittown Fire Department announce the passing of ex-chief and Charter Member Daniel T. Seip Sr.
Seip, born in Roslyn in 1920, was a 60-year member of the Levittown Fire Department. From 1944 through 1946, Seip served in the United States Naval Reserve in defense of his country. Following the war, Seip and his family moved to Levittown where he worked at Grumman Aircraft Manufacturing in Bethpage as a tool and die maker.
In 1950, Seip joined a group of individuals from Levittown who banded together to address the need to provide fire protection services to the rapidly growing Levittown community. As a result of the efforts of those Charter Members, Levittown Fire Department became a reality on August 22, 1950.
Seip volunteered much of his time off from work as member of Levittown Fire Department’s Engine Company 2. In 1957, he faithfully served as the Captain of that company. From April 1959 through April 1961 he served as Second Deputy Chief and from April 1961 through December 1962 he served as First Deputy Chief. In 1963, Seip served as the 9th chief of Levittown Fire Department.
In 1976, Seip began serving as delegate to the Nassau County 6th Battalion Fire Departments and was an active delegate more than 30 years later. In 2006, Dan received a Community Recognition Award from the Levittown School District for his outstanding service to the Department and to the Levittown Community.
Seip was the last remaining Charter Member of the Levittown Fire Department. He was a well-respected member of the department. He was always a gentleman and a pleasure to be around. He will be truly missed.
