A Long Island couple held the very first wedding at an animal rescue in Freeport this August.

Last Sunday, Tracy Pendergast of West Hempstead and Michael Mesisca of Island Park exchanged vows at the animal rescue they have volunteer at for years, Bobbi & The Strays in Freeport.

The two celebrated their wedding with family, relatives and a few furry ones. After volunteering at the shelter for years, the animal lovers knew Bobbi & The Strays would be the perfect venue for their wedding.

“The shelter means a great deal to us. Both the animals and the people that work at this shelter have become family to us. Saving animals is a passion of ours and we are so happy that Bobbi & the Strays is allowing us the opportunity to do this. There’s no other place we would rather be and thought getting married there is the perfect place for us,” said Tracy Pendergast in a statement.

Instead of accepting wedding gifts, the couple requested donations both monetary and in the form of professional volunteer service for repairs to their favorite animal rescue facility.

“Tracy and Mike are such beautiful souls. Their unconditional love and dedication to our homeless pets and our mission speaks volumes,” said Bobbi & The Strays Owner, Roberta “Bobbi” Giordano in a statement.
