MTV VMAs 2011: Lil Wayne Skate Accident, Digital Release

ilLil Wayne is releasing his latest album digitally following MTV’s 2011 Video Music Awards on Sunday night. He’s also recovering from a skateboarding accident.

Lil Wayne cut his head in St. Louis while skating at a local skate park.

Little Wayne later tweeted: “The Lou was good but I busted my … head at the sk8park! 9stitches! Gnarly gash over my left eye! Luv the people.”

His new album called Tha Carter IV will be available via iTunes and other digital download sites for purchase after midnight.

The rapper’s actual physical album will be available in stores Monday, August 29.

Lil Wayne’s latest includes collaborations with other artists like Rick Ross, Drake and Busta Rhymes.

“I am extremely excited to be the first artist to utilize such an amazing idea,” Lil Wayne said in a statement Monday about the digital release. “I hope that I can open the door for others.”

Lil Wayne spent most of 2010 in jail in New York after he pleaded guilty to a weapons charge.

In 2008, his Grammy-winning album “Tha Carter III” was the best-selling album of the year.

In 2011, Wayne is up for two Video Music Awards. The program will broadcast live from Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre.
