Chris Johnson arrived in Tennessee on Wednesday for a meeting with the Titans that the team’s general manager called “beneficial” even though a contract wasn’t signed.

Titans GM Mike Reinfeldt said he expects to talk with the star running back’s agent in the “next day or so” as the two sides continue to discuss a new contract for the 25-year-old running back.

“It was important for us to have a face-to-face meeting so that everyone could have a voice and understand the perspective of the other side,” the GM said in a statement. “I’m not sure there was any progress made, but I do think it was beneficial to meet. We were able to discuss several different elements of a potential contract, but there was no agreement on those topics.”

Johnson and his agent Joel Segal didn’t respond to questions from the Associated Press.

The Titans have said in the past that they want to make Johnson the highest-paid running back in the league. According to ESPN, people close to Johnson say he wants to be paid like one of the top playmakers in the league.

Not helping the Titans in their negotiations with Johnson is the eight-year $120 million contract that wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald agreed to with the Arizona Cardinals. Fitzgerald will reportedly receive $50 million in guaranteed money.

Johnson is set to make just over $1 million this year.

The 2008 first-round pick rushed for over 1,200 in his rookie season. He followed that up by rushing for 2,006 yards the next year and scored 14 touchdowns. In the first three years in the NFL he’s already gained 4,598 yards.
