Cynthia Lau honored as top student-artist
Hicksville High School senior Cynthia Lau has been selected as the first-place winner in the Nassau Center for Health Initiatives’ (NCHI) logo design contest. The opportunity to design a logo for this newly created not-for-profit organization was offered to all aspiring Nassau County student-artists.
NCHI is aligned with the Nassau County Department of Health and is dedicated to improving the health of Nassau County residents through collaborative programming, pilot initiatives, and innovative planning. NCHI is not a government agency and so hopes to better pilot health initiatives by seeking additional funding and partnering with the community.
Cynthia’s winning NCHI logo design depicts a white, silhouetted tree with roots beneath the ground on a spring green background. The organization’s acronym is placed horizontally across the overall design. The logo will be utilized on organization brochures and correspondence, as well as the future website. Nassau County Department of Health Director of Chronic Disease, Research, and Prevention Dr. Tavora Buchman and NCHI Secretary Terry Thomann granted Cindy a certificate and U.S. savings bond during the July 27 meeting of the Board of Education.
Dr. Buchman stated, “We grant this prestigious honor to Cynthia Lau for her creativity and for capturing the essence of NCHI.”
Cynthia plans to major in graphic design while attending college next fall. She is a motivated student and is involved in many extra-curricular activities, among which she is a reporter for the school newspaper, The Comet, president of the National Honor Society, a member of the Art Honor Society and a member of both the cross-country track and golf teams.
