De-stress with Community Style Acupuncture
Acupuncturists conduct community healing event to help local residents 10 years after 9/11. This event offers free acupuncture to reduce local community stress. The treatment follows the NADA (National Acupuncture Detoxification Association) protocol, which is highly effective in resetting a person’s nervous system and giving them a new starting place from which they can heal This event will raise funds to support Acupuncturists Without Borders,’ national and international effort to help people who have suffered from Post Traumatic Stress following natural or man-made disasters. Program for Breast Cancer Patients
Free program on finding your inner beauty for current and past breast cancer patients. Breast cancer patients, current and past, are invited to a free workshop entitle “Love Yourself….Love Your Body.” This innovative and fun workshop is designed to reveal inner beauty. Based on Diana McCray’s “Self–Love” chapter in her book A Journey Within, this workshop will help participants to move their lives forward. This program includes dancing, dialogue and exercises that connect the mind, body and spirit. It is set at the pace with which each participant is comfortable. Every parent of a college-bound teen who is confused and stressed about how on earth they’ll ever pay for college, now has help. Andrew Lockwood, J.D., an attorney turned – certified college planner, author and owner of a college financial consulting firm in Plainview, will conduct lectures on controversial, closely guarded “insider secrets” of college financial aid at 7 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room East, Student Center, Hofstra University, 200 Hofstra University, Hempstead. Lockwood plans to disclose four little known “loopholes” buried in the Department of Education’s financial aid regulations that could help families – particularly upper-middle class families, small business owners and divorced families – save 33 percent or more off the cost of college. AOH Irish Feis and Festival
The 39th Annual NC Ancient Order of Hibernians Irish Feis and Festival will be held at Molloy College, Rockville Centre. The Feis (pronounced Fesh – an Irish word for dancing competition) and Festival will include a lineup of competitive events, including dancing competitions on all levels, pipe and drum band events and singing, music, Irish art and soda bread contests. There will be food, drinks, an Irish village of vendors and games for the young children. A Catholic Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Musical guests will be the Irish band, the Sporting Paddies. Admission is $10 adults; children under 16 will be admitted free. This year, the Feis will honor its longtime chairman, Edward F. Friel, who retired from heading up the event after the 2009 Feis.
Italian Festival
Celebrate Italy’s cultural and culinary influence on America at one of the largest and most beautiful outdoor festivals on Long Island when Hofstra University hosts the 19th Annual Italian Experience from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The festival will take place outdoors, rain or shine, on the South Campus, Hempstead. Cradle of Aviation Museum
In the world of aviation, signals and coded messages are an important part of how airplanes and air traffic control speak everyday. The Cradle of Aviation Museum has a variety of free family activities. Walk through the eight museum galleries and you’ll walk through over 100 years of aerospace history with 75 planes and space craft and a variety of examples of how pilots navigated and communicated from the early days of flight through the space program. Museum activities are free with admission and are available each day from noon to 4 p.m. The museum also is home to the IMAX Dome Theatre and is located on Charles Lindbergh Blvd., Museum Row. NC Coalition Against Domestic Violence
The Coalition is a member agency of the Garden City Community Fund, United Community Fund of Great Neck, Community Chest of Port Washington and United Way of LI. Call 222-2293 for information the following:
•Support groups with individual counseling for incest survivors and survivors of rape and sexual assault. Services are confidential and free of charge. These services are also extended to family members and partners of survivors.
•The coalition operates a safe home for battered women and their children. The Coalition’s Safe Home for Abused Families provides shelter, advocacy and legal assistance, in a safe, warm, supportive, attractive environment. Call the 24-hour hotline 542-0404. The hotline and all services are free and confidential and a counselor can help you find safety.
•If you are 60 or older and suffering from abuse, mistreatment or neglect at the hands of family members or someone who is living with you, help is available. Epilepsy Foundation

•Free Puppet Show on Seizure Disorder. A free children’s program on epilepsy using the internationally acclaimed “Kids on the Block” troupe of puppets to public and private elementary schools. Exhibits
•“Insight…A Personal Vision,” The Photography of Fred R. Fertik presented by the LI Center of Photography. “Images selected were photographed during extensive worldwide travel covering a period of many years up to the present, but it is not a travelogue and it wasn’t intended to be one. It is however a small part of a special portfolio…a limited collection of unusual photographic images that have been created, enhanced and at times completely altered as I expand upon and explore a personal vision that continues to evolve.” On view through Sept. 30 at the African American Museum of Education and Applied Arts, 110 N.
