Fall Craft Fair

The 18th Annual Fall Country Craft Fair will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 3434 Hempstead Tpke., Levittown, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be arts and crafts vendors, refreshments and a bake sale. Call 731-2314 for information or a vendor application.

Long Island TRIO

(Transplant Recipients International Organization). The public is invited to a very special re-dedication ceremony of TRIO’s “Donor Rose Garden.” The annual ceremony honoring donors and donor families is one of Long Island TRIO’s most cherished events. The ceremony honors those who have given others new life. Noon at Eisenhower Park, East Meadow, adjacent to the Women’s Sport Pavilion- Parking Field 6/6A.

Zumbathon

Last Hope Animal Rescue wants to get you in shape by hosting a Zumbathon led by the instructors of Yogasize from 1 to 3 p.m. in the parking lot of the Last Hope Adoption Center, 3300 Beltagh Ave., Wantagh. Great fun and exercise for all ages. Tickets are $10 per person. All proceeds benefit Last Hope’s foster animals and community outreach programs like Fix-A- Feral. During the Zumbathon there will be an open house at the adoption vzenter so visitors can meet the Last Hope dogs and cats available for adoption…and there will be more: Hair by Victoria will have a table doing feather hair extensions for humans and canines; there will also be a book sale and raffles. LI Crisis Center Annual Walk

To raise awareness of suicide prevention will be held at 11a.m. Individuals and teams will gather on the Long Beach Boardwalk at Riverside Blvd. Complete information, sponsorship opportunities and access to registration are available at http://www.longislandcrisiscenter.org/.

Free Veteran Breakfast

Serving our country with the utmost courage and honor, the selfless contributions of the veterans of this great nation are an enduring testament to the values of liberty, justice and freedom that all Americans hold dear.

 As a small thank you to the veterans who reside in his district, Senator Kemp Hannon invites vets and one guest to a free Veterans Pancake Breakfast from 10 a.m. to noon at VFW Post 7277, 191 Veterans Blvd., Massapequa. 

Reservations are necessary and can be made by calling Senator Hannon’s Community Office at 739-1700 or you can reserve a seat online at kemphannon.com. Senator Hannon is honored to host this event to thank the veterans for their valuable contribution to both our state and our nation.

Walk for Behcet’s Disease

Join the ABDA for the 2011 Walk for Behcet’s Disease sponsored by XOMA, Ltd at Eisenhower Park. Registration is at 9:30 a.m.; walk begins at 11 a.m. Donations will help the American Behcet’s Disease Association raise awareness about this rare, debilitating autoimmune disease that is much like Lupus or MS, but severely misdiagnosed. Collect sponsorships (donations) for this 3-mile walk and get a chance to win great prizes. There will be music, raffles, children’s games and lots of grateful faces for a morning of good deeds and exercise. Fall Garden Celebration

At Farmingdale State College in the Ornamental Horticulture Teaching Gardens from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is your opportunity to buy beautiful fall plants and flowers while supporting the horticulture department. Back to School Blood Drive

Hosted by Nassau Community College, in conjunction with Nassau University Medical Center, from 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. in the College Center Building. Walk in donors welcome, or make an appointment to give blood by calling Dr. Friedman at 572-7883. Blood donors must be at least 17 years old and in good health. Donors should come with some photo identification. Although small snacks will be provided, donors should eat before donating.

Library to Welcome 9/11 Survivor, Author

The Westbury Memorial Public Library will commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks with book discussion and signing with Michael Hingson, a World Trade Center survivor and author of Thunder Dog: The True Story of a Blind Man, His Guide Dog and the Triumph of Trust at Ground Zero. Like its subtitle suggests, Hingson’s book is the story of how blindness and a bond between dog and man saved lives and brought hope during one of America’s darkest days. In Thunder Dog, Hingson, who has been blind since infancy, provides a first-hand account of that tragic Tuesday morning coinciding with a backstory into his personal life and how he never let his lack of sight stop him from achieving his goals. Hit the Pavement for the Poor

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul will host its Third Annual Friends of the Poor Walk at Bethpage State Park to help Long Islanders in need. Every year the society hosts a walk to help support its direct aid programs, of which there are 52 facilitated within 49 LI communities. St. Vincent de Paul serves a vulnerable population including the homeless, elderly, working poor and anyone that demonstrates a genuine need. The Rockville Centre Council of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul encourages all Long Islanders to participate in the walk as walkers, sponsors, volunteers. If you are unable to attend, be sure to support your local Conference (St. Vincent de Paul volunteer group) through a walker or team pledge. Contributions of any size are welcome and appreciated.
