Following the suicide of a 14-year-old, Lady Gaga has vowed to make bullying illegal.

This past week, Jamey Rodemeyer of Buffalo, took his own life with bullying to blame.

According to ABC, the Amherst Police Department’s Special Victims Unit said it will determine whether to charge some students with harassment, cyber-harassment or hate crimes and that three students in particular may have been involved.

Reportedly, Rodemeyer had been bullied for a long time over his sexuality. Recently, students had been posting anonymous hate comments to his Formspring account. One reportedly read, “I wouldn’t care if you died. No one would. So just do it 🙂 It would make everyone WAY more happier!”

Although struggling with bullies, Rodemeyer had once posted an “It’s Gets Better” video. In his video, he shared his experience being bullied and also thanked Lady Gaga for her support.

“Lady Gaga, she makes me so happy. She lets me know that I was born this way and that would be my advice to you from her,” Rodemeyer said in his video. “We were born this way and all you have to do is hold your head up and you’ll go far. That’s all you have to do. Love yourself and you’re set.”

Following his death, Lady Gaga took to her Twitter and said, “Jamey Rodemeyer, 14 yrs old, took his life because of bullying” and that “Bullying must become be illegal. It is a hate crime.”

Later, Gaga announced she would make plans to meet with President Obama to discuss the subject.

“I am meeting with our President. I will not stop fighting. This must end. Our generation has the power to end it. Trend it #MakeALawForJamey,” she tweeted.
