Week 2 highlights as submitted by league coaches:
Peanut 1: The Cardinals scored two touchdowns against the Patriots: “Action” Jackson Penn had an 80-yard TD run and Christopher Giglio scored on a five-yard run in which he probably covered 30 yards running from sideline to sideline. On defense, Bredan Gigante’s three tackles led the Cardinals.
From Week 1
The Cardinals lost to the Packers in tight game. Jackson Penn carried the Cardinals’ touchdown with rushing yards made by Christopher DiPiazza, James Liebler, William Napolitano and Christopher Giglio.
Junior Varsity 5: The JV Patriots had an outstanding Sunday versus the Giants with Nicky Demers connecting with Nyle Gordon for multiple long touchdowns – both would have been fantasy superstars this week! Nick Demeri and Cody Nelson also added nice catch and runs to keep the Patriots offense going! The Patriots defense had three interceptions: one by Demeri on a diving play, one outstanding one by Jevon Evans where he tipped it, hitting the ball off a Giants player, and recovered it for a return, and finally a game-turning one by Demers! With minutes to go on the clock and the Giants driving for a game-tying TD, Nicky Demers intercepted the ball on the Patriots five-yard line and brought it all the way back to the Giants two where one play later he hit Gordon in the end zone for the TD that iced the game! Great efforts this week for the Patriots first win of the season!
Junior Varsity 6: The Bengals are on fire. Andrew Needham had two interception returns for a touchdown and a rushing touchdown. Steven Nostrand had an interception and a touchdown reception. Anthony Tedesco threw for two touchdowns and ran for another. Jack Leghart had another 65-yard touchdown reception. Joseph DeFlorio, Tyler Looney, and John Russo led the defense in holding the Jets offense at bay. The Bengals had an inspiring win for James Tedesco who is out for the season due to an injury.
Girls 7-9: The Jets won their second consecutive game with a 25-12 victory over the Packers. The Jets led 6-0 at halftime on a touchdown run by Jayme Rosner. Early in the second half, Summer Baranello intercepted a pass deep in Packers territory and ran it in for the second touchdown. Full field rushing touchdowns by Mia Inzirillo and Casey Shimborske capped off the scoring. Samantha Muscarella made her season debut and had a terrific long running play of her own, nearly making it to the end zone.
From Week 1
The Jets started the season impressively with a 32-8 win over the Patriots. The girls played a swarming defense, with first half interceptions by Theresa DeSantis, Anna Kate Dickinson, Julia Presta and Summer Baranello. Five different girls scored touchdowns, highlighted by Jayme Rosner’s full field run.
Junior Varsity 7: The Patriots scalped the Chiefs 42-32 this week for their second win of the season. Sean Moloney (3 TDs), Conor Hess (2TDs receiving, 1 passing), Jack Livingston (4 TD passes) and Zachary Giancola (2 TDs) led the offensive explosion for the Pats. Tyler Moloney, Frank DeRosa, Luke Gruener and Zachary Germain led the defense and did a great job pulling flags and containing the speedy Chiefs.
