Eddie Cibrian is back in the spotlight now that he plays Nick Dalton, a smooth talking Playboy who seems to play both the good guy and bad guy in “The Playboy Club.” And he seems excited about it.
“This is so different than anything I’ve ever done, and it’s different for TV, too, especially now,” Cibrian told USA Today in a recent interview. “I really couldn’t pass it up.”
The show takes viewers back to the 1960’s and features a host of “bunnies” that work at the original Playboy Club in Chicago. It also brings Cibrian back to the world of primetime television.
Cibrian’s first big gig came when he played Matt Clark in “The Young and the Restless.” One of his longest stints on Television was from 1999 to 2005 when he played firefighter Jimmy Doherty in “Third Watch.” He is now married to country music star LeAnn Rimes. The couple met on the set of a Lifetime movie in 2009.
“I’ve done many, many series, but this is the most high-profile show that I’ve been a part of. I’ve been doing this for so long now that I never listen to or pay attention to any hype or buzz. The nature of the TV business is very fickle and you don’t know what is going to catch audience’s attention.”
He continued: “You just have to attach yourself to projects that, at the end of the day, whether it was a success or not, you were happy to be a part of it.”
Cibrian said of his character: “He is a chameleon. He’s very social, very liked by a lot of people. On the facade, he seems to have it all. He’s very successful. He’s dating the head Playboy bunny. He’s one of the first keyholders at the Playboy Club, but he has a very mysterious past.”
Dalton is a former mob “fixer” turned good guy, who is running for State Attorney. Cibrian said the mob was very influential in the ‘60s, and he hints at past misdeeds that he’s trying to distance himself from.
“So, he’s done some things in the past that he’s not very proud of, and he’s always been trying to break free from that. Now, he has an opportunity to actually really start doing good. You’ll see he’s going to start making a run for state’s attorney, and that’s going to bring him a lot of animosity from the underworld.”
